Sony a7s (mk1) or Sony a6300?

Hello. Could someone please give me a recommendation for which one if these cameras I should buy. a7s second hand costs the same as a new a6300 in my country, so money is not something to consider.

I am going to use the camera for videos and photos, but video is the most important thing. Not sure if I need 4k that much. Which camera should I buy?

Hope to someone will share their knowledge with me :-)

as a a7s user i wouldn't switch to a6300. i can't imagine having even moar RS. it's bad enough on a7s.

If you don't need internal 4K, I would also say a7S, BUT if you're shooting lots of stills with AF, it's a lot better on the a6300 than on the a7S.
They are close enough that you can't really go wrong either way.
What lenses will you be using? That would be the deciding factor for me.

I own both and if I have to decide only for one - I would take the 6300. Especially if you will take stills with it. In my opinion the A7s is useless for serious photography. Ok, you have to take care for RS with the 6300...its not so important for me...
You have much more choices for SONY lenses because of APS-C - you can use autofocus as long as you want (and its much better than the autofocus of the A7s) and even the lowlight is better than the previous model (6000).
So if you dont try to film racing cars in the middle of the night, take the 6300.

The continuous AF in the a6300 is very good. Best so far from Sony. If you use a gimbal this will be a nice plus.
4K is also very good.
Stills are great. Very fast AF with phase detection and a gazillion AF points.

A7s is better in low light better internal HD. Headphone jack for audio monitoring too.

Even though the a6300's rolling shutter is the worst you would deal with it the same way as you would with the a7s, so that one is more of a tie.

If it was me I would get the a6300. The AF is just so good in video mode. 4K has so much detail and the stills with AF are a big plus. I don't need to shoot in pitch darkness so the crazy lowlight of the a7s isn't a big factor.

Hey! In 6 months you can get the a7s II for 1K since the new Mark III will be released. :-D

Don't mean to hijack. I'm in a similar predicament as well. I shoot a lot of portraits along with video, mostly small events and weddings. As far as video & noise, Do you guys think the A6300's 4k would at least keep up with the A7s for event/wedding shoots in lower light (assuming final delivery is 1080p) ?

IMO, the A6300's 4K video image quality is better than the A7s' HD in FF or APSC. It's sharper, nicer, colors are better...it's really if the A7s can keep up with the A6300.

Shooting HD on the A6300 is a different story and I have no comment on that.

Thank you all for taking time and sharing your advice.
Hum, this is not easy... I dint think the rolling shutter problem on the a6300 will not be that much of a problem for me, since I mostly do landscape video with wide angel.
Hehe, I am not going to film race car in the middle of the night :-) But since a few of you favored the a7s, what is your argument for taking that one over the a6300?
I dont own many lenses yet, but I got a 10-18mm, which can be used on both (Much less range on the a7s of course).

Thanks again for helping me :-)
