Sony A7s - LUT's for OTHER picture profiles than SLOG-2?

Hello,

I was asking myself if there are LUT's out there for other cinegammas than SLOG-2?

Or am I getting something totally wrong? I mean I know that there is only SLOG-2 which needs heavy grading so a LUT is necessary, but I could think of LUT's that create a basic look out of picture profiles with cine 1 gamma, etc.

If you know a source please let me know :-)

Thanks for any answers in advance.

Sure, you could make one. Just add a grade you like in Resolve and export the .cube file. It's pretty simple.

For me the biggest challenge with SLOG isn't the flatness but the ISO 3200. It's pretty noisy - especially when externally recorded.

I've created a profile with Cine4 that looks almost as flat and has a lot of DR. Then I add a custom LUT to that. Is your main issue that you don't like previewing in log mode?

Hey, thanks for answering.

ai would just like to have a basic look where I can start working with in Post. Its not hard to grade cine 1 or 4, but I would still like to have a LUT... And I have never created a custom one (not working with Resolve etc.)... Thats why I asked if there is something available somewhere :)

I don't know of any that is plug and play. You might just wanna bump up contrast and saturation, or shoot a more baked in profile like neutral.

LUTS have only been used for creative grading pretty recently. They were originally designed so you could see what the color would look like when printed to certain film stock and thus would be applied last in the chain for grading. What you are looking for is a basic starting point creatively. For that, you can check out Color Grading Central. Since you aren't looking to go LOG to REC709 for example, you should just apply looks and see what works best, kind of like filters. MBLooks also has a fair amount of styles. And FilmConvert comes with some too.

can you share your custom pp?

Sure.

Black Level +15
Cine4
Black Gamma: Wide +7
Knee Auto
Color Mode: Cinema
Saturation: -5
Detail: -7

It doesn't respond exactly like Slog2 in the way mids are distributed, but it gives more latitude in the blacks. I use it with my Shogun and use Slog2 Deluts and it looks great, plus you can shoot ISO 200.
