Sony A7s: is it possible to update the firmware if I don't have the usb cable???

I was able to easily update firmware on my GH4 simply by placing the firmware update on the Micro SD card.

Is it not possible to update the Sony A7s that way as well? By placing the firmware update on the card instead of connecting via USB?

The reason I ask is because I lost my USB cable for my A7s.

I would really like to be able to update from a memory card as well since the USB port on my A7R has not worked since I purchased the camera; however, I haven't been able to part with the camera to get it fixed. However, upgrading via a memory card is not an option for the Sony A7 series cameras; sadly.

Sorry to hear that Brian. That's a real shame. Most cameras allow you to update via the card. I'd better find my USB cable then. Because I don't want to part with my A7s either.

Brian have you tried on multiple computers? May be a driver/software issue with the PC.

And Nicholas, you should be able to buy a replacement USB cable easily off ebay for very cheap.
