Hey Guys,

i had my new Sony a7s II over the christmas time with me. so i tested a lil bit :)

Technical detals:
Canon 24-105mm 4f lense
Metabones MK IV T.
Everything handheld + IBIS. Sometimes a lil bit shaky, it was cold :)

I shot everything in slog2, 1080p50(for slomo), fullframe. slog3 makes not much sense to me, its to flat for a 8 bit codec.
Some shots are not correctly exposed, so you can see noise in the dark areas, but its not that bad.
cut and graded on premiere cc.

greets

Great stuff man - as you said, the noise is really not that bad for S-log2. Especially the inside low light shots, which tend to be s-log's downfall. Great stuff. IBIS + lens IS is pretty a pretty solid combo. No need for a rig.

Hey man thx.
You can't turn on both IBIS and lens IS with metabones. You have to choose between them. I still don't know which one I should prefer, but I think IBIS needs less battery.

enjoyed it :)

Glad to hear :)

Looks really good. Want to ask since you used the metabones adapter with my favorite Canon lens the 24-105 did you do all manual focus or did you use autofocus as well. If you did use AF how was it in your view?

I do never use autofocus on video, always manual.
I tried autofocus doing some photos, but it's bad... It's better then with a7s, but still slow and not always correct.
I hope Metabones is able to change that with new firmware.

@Austinchimp

finally on my pc...
I used Lumetri on Premiere.
First LUT is the SLOG2-SL-PROFILE on all shots enabled.
Indoor Scene got "Clean Punch", about 20%
and some of the outdoorshots got the "Golden Rush", about 10-20%.

and a lot of small changes, like blue in the shadows, or whatever :)

I don't know about IS but OSS > IBIS

Without a doubt. Question - does IS/OSS + IBIS > IS/OSS without IBIS? I haven't done testing - sometimes im not sure if its worth activating IBIS when i already have IS with my canon lens(with metabones)

But you can't activate IS and IBIS together with Metabones. You can choose only between them.

Very strange because it automatically turns on when i turn my IS - Metabones + tamron VC. I then have to choose my focal length however. If i turn IS off on my tamron, then OSS goes to OFF and i can't turn it on.

maybe you dont have the latest metabones firmware? i remember it was like that, but then it changed with the newest.

Hi, I wanted to revive this thread to ask more about the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC versus the Sony G 24-70 2.8 on the A7S ii.

I am getting an A7S ii and want to get the Tamron for handheld work. Ideally I want to use one of those adapters with electronics AND integrated ND (Kipon or some other Chinese company). I also have an FS7 so I'd get a nice fast lens via SpeedBooster as well.

But from the posts above it sounds like VC and IBIS don't work well together and it's a big dicey depending on the adapter? Can anyone share their experiences with the Tamron on A7Sii?

Also, the Tamron won't get distortion correction like the Sony, I assume?

If it's too much trouble, then I would pay up and go for the Sony G 24-70 and just deal with a screw-on ND.

Thanks.
