After a very helpful response from Den Lennie I was able to confirm that the A7S comes with the HDMI Cable Retainer shown in the picture below taken by DeeJay Scharton

If you hate HDMI cables as much as I do I am sure you will be as happy as I am to hear this!
 
This is great news. When I saw that mini HDMI port I was definitely bummed. This is much better. I use to hate the port on the 5D3....fortunately Lockport had a solution for that. This is little piece of gear thats a huge plus!
 
That is good to hear. I noticed that box on one of the NAB videos -- but I thought it might have more to do the theft prevention or cable management.

Are we sure that the device does full-on strain relief -- or does it simply prevent the cables from being tugged at a severe angle to the camera?

You guys know how the retainer is affixed to the camera? The video seems to show a base plate attached to the tripod socket but its pretty dark
 
I believe it clamps onto the side, opening up like a pair of scissors to plug in cables and then held closed with a metal clip. The end against the camera wrap around like little fingers to securely hold on when the thing is closed.Appears quite solid.
