Sony A7s f-stop glitch after recording ends, have to turn on and off

Hi, I've been having this issue with my A7s and A7s II, both have adapters, a low budget and a metabones, and each camera has a strange issue where I will turn it on, set my exposure and film and everything is fine. Next, I stop recording and try to adjust my f-stop, the camera may idle or not I can't tell, but when I want to use the camera, it's suddenly blown out (presumably locked at f2.8 or f/4) and raising the f-stop doesn't change anything except the number readout on the screen. ISO changes do factor in. This has been really annoying on shoots where I have to continually turn off and on the camera between setting up shots to bring back use of my aperture. Any tips? I could possibly disable idle and see if that fixes it, but battery drain is so bad as it is on these things.

I assume you're using Canon EOS lenses?

I've had similar experiences and always though it was down to the adapter (Commlite) on my A7s. I do have two Metabones adapters which have always worked fine on my FS700 and A5100 but as neither of them work on full frame (one is a Speedbooster, the other is one of the earlier models which vignettes heavily) I've never thought to test them on my A7s.
