Sony A7s, A7Rii, bug or not?

When I power off my A7s and A7Rii, even if I'm in AF mode, when I power it back on it goes right to Manual Focus mode. Is that normal? Is there a way to stop that and have it power back on in whatever focus setting I was on before it powered off?

Simple question. Small annoyance. Just curious. Happens with various lenses. APS-C and FF lenses.

Thanks Paul for (both) answers. Which camera do you have? And do you have the latest firmware update? I don't remember this happening with my A7s cameras up until the last few months. But now it happens to all of them as well as my wife's A7Rii all of which I did a firmware update to in the last 3-6 months to whatever the latest firmware release is on each camera. Hmm...

The software on the A7S II is buggy as heck. It's not reliable. It freezes up or a feature doesn't kick in for no reason. I like to use M mode for the convenience of shooting both video and photo and to take advantage of several features, but doing so seems to really stress the software and freeze up. It crashes too in video mode but not as often.

I have both, neither changes AF settings after switching off. Just checked them and they're both still on AF-c. I juggled lenses to see if any of them would trigger that behavior, nothing.

That's really odd. Have you tried resetting the camera? I've never noticed anything in the menus that would make that happen either.

I don't remember this happening on my A7s until the last several months so I thought...the only thing different is I've updated the firmware so maybe it was that. But I don't know. I've also experienced random ISSUES on two of my 3 A7s cameras that require a battery pull. I had buggy software issues on the A7Rii for a while which I then found out was due to the Neewer Vertical Grip. So I removed that and no issues since. It's just strange they both now default back to MF upon powering off. I'll have to test further and maybe reset the camera as you suggested to see if that helps.

SOLVED! - And I feel kinda dumb. But hey, I'm glad I found out what was causing it. I thought back to when this started happening and I origially pegged the firmware update, but I think it was when I lent my cameras out to people over a course of two weeks this winter. Turns out the Focus Mode setting in the menu was on Manual Focus. Hadn't had that on that before. Perhaps they switched it. When I had the camera back on AF-C and went into the menu that option was greyed out...but...as soon as you switch to MF on the camera and THEN go into the menu and find "Focus Mode" it won't be greyed out and instead will give you the option to change from MF to AF-C. Whatever it's set on is what it will default back to when the camera is powered on. It was on MF, now it's on AF-C and all is well. Thank you all for your help.
