Sony A7s 4K Mirrorless Camera Coming this Sunday at NAB

Speaking of canon glass, is there a metabones adapter for canon ef to this camera? E mount is not the same as NEX right?

The Ef to E-amount metabones adapter will work just fine as it does already with the A7 and A7R.

Personnaly, i'm very excited about the ability to use both Full frame and APS-C modes in video, both with "full" sensor reading. (so says the press release)
Since the E-mount can be adapted to virtually any type of lense, this makes it a really really versatile camera indeed.

Any lense with full sensor reading, "Riddickulous" performance in low light and S-log in that compact size.... frankly i consider the 4k output as a bonus ;)

Will people be quite so interested in the A7s when they find out the price is effectively double that of the GH4?

I just spoke with a dealer and the news wasn't good.

If the A7s was going to be in the ballpark of the GH4 I would've pulled the trigger immediately but if the dealer was correct, why wouldn't he be, then the A7s is looking like a very sizeable investment to shoot HD let alone 4K. You'll definitely have to rig it out with all the necessaries and that means it'll be close to a secondhand FS700 in no time.

Are the draw of low light and full frame enough to overcome the likely price and the DSLR hassle? Not me.

I thought the confirmed price was $1699? Or do you mean when factoring an external 4k recorder?

oh the price will go down in a year.

But in a year, probably 6 months, I would've expected Sony to have released a "proper" video camera with this sensor at a price not too far north of this A7s.

I was hoping it would come in at a competitive price to the GH4 and at that price it would've been a good option despite it being limited to 8 bit 4K. While the GH4 is challenged in low light and darker areas of the image it is an impressive piece of kit especially with a Speedbooster and fast lenses. I know there is a contingent who want to shoot by candle light that will be impressed by the A7s but if the price I was given is correct then the GH4 seems like a steal for those that use lights.

No, but I was given a price the dealers were working with today.

And no it did not include lens or 4K recorder.

Any hints?

As I've stated in another thread. For this camera to push me off my choice to buy a GH4 (I have GH3 $ Nik booster now) it has to be around $2K -$2.5K. Anything more and it is far too underfeatured at that price point for my needs.

So the A7s only shoots UHD and not 4K DCI? Could that be a potential problem down the line or not really?

There's a NAB interview with the Atomos owner. He said the Shogun will be under $2000 and the Shogun + A7S set up will be under $5000. The math would suggest that the camera will be close to $3000, which is a bit sobering, but then again the 5diii is $3399 at B&H today. Given the interest in this new Sony, I have a feeling that Sony will get away with charging close to $3000 and it will still fly off the shelves.
