Sony a7R III: is it the right camera for me?

Hi, I always use videocameras to shot 4K documentaries around the world. I don't sell my doc. but I only project them. Usually I am in the forest, bush, remote areas to film daily like of indigenous peoples. I always tavel alone. Now I use a small camera Sony AX100. I'd like to improve the quality of image but I like a simple and immediate camera. Sometimes I shot in auto mode too because scenes follow each other quickly. I'd like to buy the new Sony a7R III but I don't know if I make an error. Maybe a videocamera is better for me than a camera like the Sony a7R III? Some suggestions please?
Thanks

This has been a popular question that's been asked for the past decade and I think it always depends on the type of shooter one is and his or her experience.

Have you ever used a mirrorless/SLR camera for video before? If so, what did you think?

There will always be strengths and weaknesses to both. I've mostly used these types of cameras my entire career and I wouldn't choose anything else for the type of shooting you're describing. I love the form factor, the buttons, and all of the features that exist in the newer cameras, especially something like the a7RIII.

IMO, regular video cameras with fixed lenses are extremely dated with image quality. I've used most of the options under $10K and they just do not compare (video quality) to something like an a7RIII and a high-quality piece of glass. It's evident immediately the quality is extremely better.

So if your main goal is to improve the quality of your video and you're able to work around the limitations of a stills camera that shoots video, an a7RIII would be a good choice.

Per usual, you should always rent a new camera you're thinking about using and spend some time with it and see if it's for you.

I thank you for your suggestions. I don't know what you are shooting precisely. Did you get a look at my videos? Click on my signature link please, so that you can suggest me better. I never used a SLR camera, I sometimes use Sony DSC-HX20V but it is a HD compact camera and I use it only in my holidays. Do you think I will make an error to replace my 4K Sony AX100 videocamera with a camera?

I know the a7RIII is a very good camera but it shoots only at 30p. ughhh!!! Do you know also Panasonic GH5? I read very good reviews on it too. I think it makes good for video too. What is your thought about it?
I thank you again one.

The a7rIII shoots 24p/30p in 4K and 24/30/60/120p in HD...so you wouldn't be missing anything over the AX100.

The GH5 is also loaded with features and is a great camera. (4K/60p!)

Since you haven't used either, it's important you try them because my suggestion doesn't mean anything and that's the only way you'll know if they are for you.

I haven't used the A7R iii but I did use the A7s ii before switching to the GH5.

If you don't want to go for a dedicated cine/video camera i would go for the Gh5 over the Sony. (Unlimited recording, duel slot recording, 10bit and weather sealing have a lot to do with this).

If you do go for an SLR style camera, you'll probably miss the built in ND filters a lot so I would try and figure out a solution for that!

Thanks for your suggestions, but GH5 is only an external 10bit.
