Sony A77 release very soon - is this the 5D/7D/GH2 killer?

If ONE more person uses the whole is this a "______ killer" then I am going to go berserk. Seriously, why would any camera be a killer of another camera? I can understand people asking it about a camera that blows dslrs away but WHY would you even use that phrase to just refer to yet another DSLR which may or may not be able to compete with Canon. Even if it is way better than canon dslrs, people will still buy canon dslrs.

It looks like it could be the first 2nd generation HDSLR off the block and by 2nd gen I mean 1080p 60p, better codec, no moire, aliasing, or rolling shutter. All those features/fixes would make it....KILLER!

Nobody knows for sure yet but I suspect it will have very clean high ISO performance exceeding the 5D and approaching the FS100....KILLER!

Yeah it's not full frame but fast wide lenses can compensate for that. I like that it's weather sealed and 130 grams lighter than the 5D so should fly well. THe A65 is even lighter with the same video spec but not weather sealed. The 16-50mm f/2.8 zoom might be a decent useable lens too.

The great news is Sony are finally taking the HDSLR market seriously and it won't be long until they bring out a full frame HDSLR with a sensor like the D3s. Hopefully Nikon will follow suit and improve their video specs.

And the Sony cams are supposed to have in-camera image stabilization as opposed to in the lens. That's great. Also Sony can match anything Nikon does, after all they share the same sensors! If they perform as expected this new round of cameras from Sony are not going to be killers but: DESTROYERS! We will soon get all the juicy info. I am so glad I postponed the purchse of my new camera. Weird, something told me to wait for there were new toys coming from the least expected one.

we haven't heard anything about the audio quality or its controls. it'd be a real killer if it could have killer image AND good audio similar to ML on the canons or liek the GH2's audio but without the AGC natively. All I want is manual controls lol

Now that you mention it the A77 will be a direct competitor to the VG20.
The A77 would have full time autofocus and stabalization from the A-Mount while the VG20 would have the E-Mount.
If that be the case the question I then ask is whats the advantage of the VG20?
The A77 would be able to everything the VG20 can do plus full time autofocus (if you need it) take Hi-Res stills, weathersealed body etc.
Then again the VG20 would be able to support more manual lenses than the A77 due to the E-Mount and may have XLR connections.
But other than that the A77 would be killer indeed.

The main diference is the form factor. The VG20 is a video camera with photo capabilities and the A77 the opposite. A lot of people like their video cameras to look, feel and work like a video camera.

So far in my opinion all handycams still need a rig of some sort to become truly stable while moving.
The only cams that dont ned this are the shoulder-mounted ones.
I guess appearance is important for some people.
I just wonder if the performance will be up to what we all want and expect.

We will start finding out all the details pretty soon. I am having lots of fun following the rumors, leaks and pending announcements from Sony and Nikon. Exciting times.

Also want to see what the A77 still image quality is like. For me, just as important as the video. I'm not going to get my hopes up until a respectable 3rd party review is out there.

You see a Nikon you see a Sony. Sony makes the Nikon's sensors, so guess what?

Well, yes and no. Nikon uses sony sensors in their consumer and some pro-sumer models, but when it comes to their pro line, they make their own. At least that's what everything I've read points to.
