I've decided to dump my 5D3..It has nice video, but it's a monster and as a guy who does 90% stills, I long for the days of my OMD and Fuji.

But, in comes the A7 / A7s. These simply look fantastic for images and retaining the capability of the full-frame. I can't find much at all that speaks to the A7 in terms of video, though...plunging into the A7s would probably be a mistake for me as I'm just dipping my toes into this system. I would love a great stills camera that could do good documentary video work too..I'm not making action movies here. Anyone have any experience? How does it hold up to the 5D3, for example?

This video looked good: https://vimeo.com/79715048. Some users mentioned sharpness issues, but I'm not seeing them and this is a pretty high-ISO shoot.

If the A7s is THAT much better, then I may consider going that route..but with prices on the A7 pretty low, it seems the better route - for now. Thanks for reading!

For video the 5DMKIII is better than the A7, because the codec on the A7 is not the best implementation of the AVCHD and have problems with moire and aliasing, the image has noise at 1600 ISO.
But the A7s is a different beast, with a better codec implementation, some of the best low light performance on any camera and great Dynamic Range thanks to S-Log2, definitive is the route to get, my A7 goes Ebay because of the A7s.

Oh I realise who you are now - you're the 5d fan over at dvinfo with the petty vendetta against Mr Reid - do you really need to spread this kind of negativity onto this forum too?

I'm a fan of excellent video. I'm also a Fan of a good camera, I'm in the market for a good camera to complement my 5D3, and yes, I'm not selling my 5D3, and rushing out to buy the next hit Camera the camera salesman over at EOSHD is pushing in order to sell his next "how to do it" manuel on the interwebs.

Please ade4all if you think this crap Mr.Ried is publishing is the best one can do then please correct me, on technical matters ..... if on the other hand you think I have a vendetta against Mr. Ried perhaps you are correct, I look for excellence in camera reviews, and if this is the best he can do, then I look else where...... and so should you! What he posted is amateurish crap! So called professionals should be able to do better...... just look at what Phillip Bloom does in comparison to Mr. Ried. No vendetta just a search for excellence.
