Sony A6300 - 120fps // Crop? Line Skipping?

2.2x relative to FF or S35?
Crop is always with reference to full frame. So its just a bit more cropped than a gh3.

Any info about the 1080p modes?
From what Ive seen of people showing the back screen menus at the shows, the lower frame rates have the same super35 view as 4k, and the high frame rate is cropped. Id have to go reference the videos again to be sure. You can find them on youtube.

very likely, it crops and skips lines. that would be an enormous crop in a 24mp sensor if it was fhd crop

2.3x crop is what you get when you read QHD from this 6K sensor (1.52*1.5). Whether it does line skipping or it bins a full-readout of that cropped area, we can only know by looking at recorded images, once those are available.

Dont you mean UHD? QHD is 2560x1440, there is no option for that. And the UHD recording is 1.6x crop, basically standard aps-c size because it crops the top and bottom for a 16:9 aspect ratio super 35mm size.
Ive seen that the 120fps is a 2.2x (or 2.3x, nto sure) crop, and yes there is no way to know if it bins or skips until we see it, or they tell us.

+Adam Machowiak judge for yourself a 2:07 going from full sensor photo mode to 120fps video. does it look like 2x or 1.6 ;)

Just saw a video on facebook where some guy recorded the back screen while in M mode. He used 4k 24p, 4k 30p, and 1080p120. He showed the full sensor live view pre-record, then showed it going into record mode where you could see the crop take place.
4K 24p was no crop.
4k 30p was a slight crop, really not very much
1080p120 was same, really a small crop.

Kind of confusing, I thought it was more. Maybe it is just misleading, and it really is a 2x crop?

Yep, it seems some previous reviews might have been missleading. These youtube videos seem to prove that the crops are minimal

Wow, if there is very little crop for 120fps then i'm super excited. I wonder if Sony will send some review units out early, i've been checking each day to see if someone posted some real world or low light tests.

My guess was that it would be a 2.3x crop which comes from 1.53x for the sensor and a UHD -indeed not QHD- pixel-by-pixel crop from the sensor.
If it's a very small crop it could be a 1.04x "5760x3240 instead of 6000x4000" crop on top of the 1.53x sensor-size crop, which ends up as a 1.6x crop which means it's basically the same as the Canon version of APS-C. My RX100 IV does something similar to that in order to introduce pixel-shifting image stabilization.

Full readout at 4k and HD made me preorder. I wish Sony would clarify the crop instead of the vague asterisks on the press release. Camera ships soon, I imagine the NDA's will be lifted any day now. Looking forward to comparing it to the A7rII.

These small crops variations when hitting REC, are because they're shooting in M mode 3:2 instead of video mode or M mode in 16:9.
Personally in the A7SII I use to shoot in M mode 16:9 because the viewing experience and controls are better than in video mode but the recorded crop remains the same unless 120fps is selected

.

I don't find this to always be the case. For instance on the Nikon D7100, they have a 1.3x crop mode. But that was referencing APS-C.

So the actual crop was 1.3*1.5 = 1.95x (relative to FF).

Got confirmation from an A6300 tester " DVFire",

4K 24P/25P crop factor 1.5x (24MP full sensor readout)
4K 30P crop factor 1.9x (13MP crop area full readout)
HD 120P crop factor 1.9x (13MP crop area pixel binning readout)

Thanks for the update. Eager to see if theyve been able to maintain a crisp image with pixel binning.
