Also, with the A-mount lens on, there is no image stabilization.

i'd take a 50mm 1.8 with oss over that handheld sigma anytime.

at sigmas focal length a normal monopod + warp stabiliser would do ok. thats how i go to picnics with a nikon 24-70

You're right about that, but unfortunately, I do not have the lens. Yeah, the sigma lens is really long and heavy; it's so much bigger than the A5100.
