This is funny and sad, but at least tell you Sony is doing something wrong with their cameras:

Commercial

behind the scenes where you can see the EPIC.
[/QUOTE]

Sony is doing nothing wrong with their cameras. Making statements like that sound silly and comes off as trolling.

Sony has so many divisions chances are the TV division hired a crew to shoot some footage in 4K for a TV presentation and didn't have hands on in how or what they shot it on. When the sony appliances division shoots a commercial they probably hire a company and its shot on whatever camera the production company uses.

Edit: watched the behind the scenes and didn't see any camera just lenses. Keep trollin trollin trolling.

I believe I might have seen a RED lens, but where is the red camera? I think this is BS.

Oh and cool how they could film the bubbles freezing! :)

If you don't know about something at least don't make pointless comments. For your informations and learning at 0:53 is very clear a RED menu display. for me this is really bad marketing for sony cameras and F55 in general, I'm not talking about the general public but the well informed and trained professionals than really know what is what and consider buying their cameras

Its a different division of the company that has nothing to do with cameras. What should anyone care about what some company sony consumer electronics division hired uses as a camera. They are showing a 4K image to sell TV's not cameras.

No camera man worth his/her salt should care what Sony TV division shoots a commercial on. Further more why do you care? its obvious from your postings that you despise Sony we all get it.

Like the other responders, I don't see a RED camera in the BTS video. I'll take your word that the overlays seen at :53 are from a RED Epic. The OP statement "behind the scenes where you can see the EPIC." remains misleading - it leads the reader to anticipate that a RED Epic camera body can be visibly resolved in the video. And that simply isn't true.

Perhaps it would have been wise for them to stick with the Sony F55 or F65 on this marketing shoot, but I fail to see how they've shot themselves in the foot or proved their cameras are crap by quietly using a RED on a marketing shoot for the consumer TV division.

Yawn...

It is a RED viewfinder and that is pretty funny. You can bet that is exactly why you don't see the camera or hear anything about it. Surprised heads didn't roll over this one.

I used to do a lot of work with Sony Playstation and we put a piece of gaffers tape over the Logo of the Ikegami.
Best story I know though was a group of friends who had a big shoot with the Sony CEO in Japan well before large sensor video cams. They went into his office and he asked what kind of camera they were using and they proudly showed him their top of the line Panavision 35mm set-up brought over from the States. He calmly replied, "very nice… why don't you call me when you can come back with a Sony Camera" and walked out .

Some of your guys are really fanboys.

sure thing keep trolling. Yep Sony is just garbage because you said so.

Trying to give an answer or excuse to this is stupid . If a Sony 4K commercial is shoot with a differnt camera (in this case a red) is simply because Sony sucks.
Just imagine for a second you have been hire for the job. Any pro at least will try a sony camera. if they chose not to use one leave a lot of interrogates for sure. At least from my view

And yet a lot of working pros choose to use Sony cameras because they are fantastic. A lot of working pros use Red. A lot of working pros use Arri. None of those pros care what a commercial firm hired by Sony TV division shoots a commercial on.

@ andycla. You're right, Sony sucks. They should have used a GH4. :D

A few weeks ago I saw a Canon camera commercial that was shot on Sony F55. It doesn't mean crap. The advertisement department hires third party production companies to make commercials, and those third party companies use their own gear (probably things they already own or are used to).

Besides, this is a TV commercial -- totally separate branch. They probably have as much relation to Sony camera division as Samsung does. Basically zero.

I pretty sure Sony sold more cameras in just one year than Red ever did in it's entire 9 year history combined, -- and those cameras are used every day to shoot commercials and other stuff.

I'm not so sure about the meaning of that afirmation, if Sony had sold lots of cameras I think these has been used as very expesives paperweights on the rental houses. For some reason low budget pro preffer Canon's C's and Higher budget one Alexas and Red Epics. Sony look (ultra Sharp, Plastic noise, over saturaded) is not something well respected professionals like these day. Unfortunally the F55 is not been a very popular camera ( apart of a couple of unatractive feacture films and the worldcup that sony was main sponsor)

I think having a sony 4k commercial shoot with a diferent camera rather than Sony leaves a lot of intergants about the direccion sony camera are going.

Theres a lot to be said for hiring someone who knows their camera inside out than someone using an unfamiliar camera. A lot less time wasted on set when you know the menus inside out and have set-up programmable buttons to suit your style, not to mention handling etc.

If you dislike Sony, or want to give them a good jab for catching them using an alternate manufacturer on a internal marketing shoot, fine. But your extrapolation that therefore Sony cameras are professional failures is simply not backed up by the data. If you don't like the look, that's fine. You don't have to. But look at the list:

Feature Films shot on Sony F65:
Oblivion
After Earth
Evil Dead
Motel
The Smurfs 2
No Good Deed
Left Turn
About Last Night
Deliver Us From Evil (also F55)

Feature Films Shot on F55:
A Million Ways to Die in the West
Da Sweet Blood of Jesus

Television Shows Shot on Sony F55:
The Blacklist
The Big Bang Theory
The Michael J Fox Show (Cancelled)
Trophy Wife
FIFA World Cup coverage

Television Show Shot on Sony F5:
Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown
Unique Sweets (Cooking Channel)

And that's just a partial list based on what I can google without taking time for proper research.

Just to weigh in here,. I've owned the F55 for 20 months. I'm not a fanboy of any particular camera and decided after owning the F3 to give the F55 a chance since afterall it offered global shutter and very very high color gamut. Those two things alone should allow the camera to produce some very nice images, but I still have not really seen it. What I know from my past 2.5 years working on Sony shoots and footage is it seems to take a lot of "extra" elements to "mimic" and get "close" to a more filmic/mojo look I am after. I know all about set design, makeup, lighting, 1/8 BPM filters, framing, etc.. but its something else. Others have called it "mojo" like we see on the F35 or Alexa. The newer F's really don't seem to have this, maybe the F65 but you still need to work at getting it. As someone here said recently in the massive F7 thread "you provide the mojo".

I've shot quite a few projects in the past as well as very recently on RED EPIC & Canon 5D mkii and worked on the grading myself and when the grade is optimum there are some differences between these cameras you can pick out with the trained eye - but still to me I find the images from the EPIC far more natural, simple to grade using nothing more than RGB curves and Fast CC on a timeline, and that RED looks far more cinematic/filmic as compared with my Sony.

I can be called completey wrong and no one has to agree with me as there are all types of shoots out there (news, TV, sitcom, film, sports, etc..) but if as an F55 owner I feel like this - then it would stand to reason that someone else out there somewhere also feels the same way and perhaps that's how the company Sony hired to shoot their promo video feel, and why they themselves are equipped with RED cameras and not Sony cams.

My 2 cents.

I love my F35... hard sell for clients who aren't familiar, but the ones who use it tend to love it. Numbers aren't everything.
