Sony 36x24mm CineAlta coming September 6

Probably waaaay out of my budget even for a rental, but hey, we all like dreaming.

It sounds a lot like the a9 sensor in a cinema body: in order to get S35 4k, a FF sensor needs to be 6k, just like the a9 sensor. Then again, that one is 14-bit, not 16-bit, so it could be an entirely different sensor.

It looks like Sony is saying that this is an entirely new sensor developed for specifically this camera. It should be an interesting camera.

Meanwhile, they released a tiny RX0 model. 1" 20 MPX sensor, internal 1080p, external 4K in 4:2:2 (I assume 8-bit, since it doesn't say 10-bit specifically).

What's weird about this one: they didn't even say if it does 4k internally, let alone at what frame rates.

Looks like it does HD internal and UHD over HDMI. It's already listed at B&H so it looks like it is coming soon. I am not a big fan of HDMI so maybe they will release a pro version with HD-SDI.

Most of the footage from the demo short looks pretty good to me but the something some off with some of the opening shots. Maybe it was an issue with lighting or codec but they seem much lower resolution than the rest of film. I do like the lack of barrel distortion.

The BTS does show off some cool production possibilities.
