FS7: Sony 18-105 lens

Agreed about the stupid little Sony lens. Great value and pretty darn sharp. Fly by wire focus and zoom is something you just have to work around but for $600 compared to the kit lens of $2500, it's a no brainer. A bit slow at f4 but if you mount it on the FS7 or A7S (I now have both), it works just fine.
Glad to see somebody reviewing it. I shot some side by sides with the SLEP an the kit and as far as resolution, my eyeballs couldn't tell the difference.

It should also be mentioned that the Sony 18-105mm is par focal. The Canon EF glass is not.

Not only is the 18-105mm a servo lens but it allows for nice slow zooms that can be feathered on and feathered off. The servo action might even be better than that of the FE 28-135mm.

The 18-105mm is far from ideal. It has many shortcomings and quirks. But in a world of limited choices for a servo zoom under $30k, it is something to consider. Particularly since the cost is so relatively low.

I would love to hear from someone who has used both the 18-105mm and the new 18-200mm on the Fs7.

My experience w the 18-105 was that as soon as the distortion comp was ON in the menus my LUTs menu in CINE EI became all-on or all-off . This was a deal killer . Check that out before buying . Maybe I made a mistake or maybe it was corrected in v2.0 .
I dislike the fly by wire focusing but kept the 18-200 because there was no other choice . I preferred Tamron 16-300 but it doesn't play with metabones.

I don't know if its new but there are two versions. One with the power zoom and one without. They both ramp.
Ok, it's been out since just after the FS700 was released. Was the kit lens for the EA50 which was released a few months after the FS700. I sold mine along with said EA50. Still miss that lens. When it wasn't too slow (which admittedly was fairly often) it worked really well for filming live performances! Will likely pick one up again at some point.
