Something weird happened today....Help please.

Whild using my DVX today, I heard a rattling noise. So, I took th etape out and turned the unit upside-down. Out fell a small 1/4" long pin and a tiny spring. The camera still works, but I feel uncomfortable using it. Does anyone know what I should do? How do I go about getting this fixed?

There are 23 or 24 little springs in the DVX. If you're lucky, it was just part of the tape door mechanism... Since everything still works, probably.

Take it/send it to an authorized repair center, though.

Thanks, I remembered the picture of the internals in Barry's "head cleaning guide" thread. I decided to do a side by side comparisoin and everything looks normal except the part labelled "Capistan" inside my DVX, it appears to be missing the nut and it is much thinner. So I'm guessing this rod slides over the existing rod.

Honestly? I wouldn't. If the pin is a capstan (assuming we're using the term correctly) the tape could get "eaten" by the mechanism, since the capstans are used to guide the tape to the proper places.

Can you tell if there is something missing from the tape path? Can you see in there with the door open?

Get it serviced asap. If not, you might find more parts finding a way out of the mechanism...
