Something odd happened to me yesterday

I filmed a play yesterday, and while setting up my HVX, I somehow got the FOCUS ASSIST to stay on.

Something I did yesterday turned the FOCUS ASSIST button into a toggle. I was able to turn the feature on and leave it on for as long as I wanted, and pressing the button again returned me to a normal viewfinder. This was something I had wanted from the HVX, so I was utterly surprised when it suddenly behaved this way.

I assumed that this was maybe another feature that was slipped in with the V4.06 firmware, but this morning, as hard as I tried, I couldn't reproduce the behavior I saw yesterday. I haven't changed the recording setup or scene file since the camera the day before.

I'm not crazy, I don't drink or do drugs, and I'm not sleep-deprived. Has anyone else seen this?

Eureka! I'm indeed not crazy, I was able to reproduce it!

Unfortunately, it doesn't work quite the way I would like it to. When I filmed the play yesterday, since the space was very small and in order to get all the kids in the play into the scene, I used my Century Optics / Schneider 0.6x WA adapter. I just mounted the adapter again, and got FOCUS ASSIST to stay on.

The WA adapter must be used in AF mode, and the HVX will then switch to MACRO mode to achieve focus with the adapter. I turns out that while in MACRO mode, the FOCUS ASSIST is indeed a toggle. As soon as I switch to MF and take the camera out of MACRO mode, the FOCUS ASSIST turns off and reverts back to its "normal" behavior.
