Is AVATAR james camerons new film. in 3D? or does he mean CGI? Because.. I dont like those glasses.

Avatar (2009)

Announced on June 14, 2005 in the Hollywood Reporter, James Cameron's untitled "Project 880" is a parallel project being developed alongside Battle Angel (2009). It will use the same digital-3D camera system (developed by Vince Pace) and virtual production studio (developed by Robert Legato) that Cameron will use on Battle Angel.

I have no idea what that means, though.

Cameron was speaking at NAB 2006 about 3D, and he is one of the "driving forces" in Hollywood who are pushing 3D. I'd suspect it's 3D, as in...3D.

3d Glasses PWN! I bought a box of cereal last year because it had cutout 3d glasses on the back of it, then threw the box away! :)

I think there's much improvement to 3D delivery to come. Persons like Cameron will be the ones that can make it happen.

I guess I just don't like the idea of having to wear glasses with a movie.. or buying glasses to see a movie..

AICN reported that Cameron just shot some live action footage in Hawaii for Avatar. But he also mentioned a lot about motion capture and how the guy assisting him helped with Polar Express and Beowolf (which are all CG). I'm thinking it's going to be a little bit of everything. And we won't know which characters are real and which are cg (most likely the green dudes with 8 arms - lol).

What's good about Cameron, and what seperates him from other big FX Hollywood filmmakers, is that his films usually have a great story. Sure he uses a lot of FX but he balances it with great story telling.

Can't wait to see some footage. Only two more years to go. :(

Supposedly the new 3-d is perfect. No blurring or ghosting or headaches.

In-Three is a company in california that has patented something called "dimensionalization". They make a virtual map of an image....and by way of lcd glasses that have different shutter speeds on different sides...achieve the 3-d effect.

Cameron is listed as a supporter on this site...but I'm not sure if this is the same thing he's using. He says hes shooting it in 3-d...and "dimensionalization" is a post process that is applyed to a 2-d image.

but anyway....check out the testimonials for this place.

I dunno...ive never seen any of it...but it sounds great. I think filmmaking will shift from what it has been for much of the last century...to something that is more of a virtual reality.

Had a look today at some of the aerospace craft designed for Avatar. Lots of consultation with aerospace engineers and designers; word is that the slide-rule crowd insists these things - if built for real - would fly very well indeed.

Holy f*ck.

I totally agree, Cameron is one of those rare few directors who use special effects heavily but he always deliver us good stories and complex characters. Unlike other "directors" like George Lucas who spend millions of dollars on props and FX shots meanwhile there is not even a script ready for his movies. If there is an epitome of our incoherent reality (an untalented but wealty director) i think is Lucas.

I just wish there were more IMAX theatres around. I don't have any near where I live.

Actually, I've never even been to an IMAX theatre before, so luckily I don't know what I'm missing.:embarasse

Am I missing anything?

Yes, you are.

There's more and more IMAX venues all the time, seems like, so you oughtta have a neighborhood one soon enough...
