Somebody 'splain this...

If you take so much as one hit, your bodyguard is incompetent. I mean, really.

As for 'justified' I guess you'd have to look at the local and state ordinances regarding battery.

My kids (8, 8 and 11) are really Disney / Nick-centric. Even as they make much fun and ridicule of Justin "Beaver", they seem to know every word of his songs.

Disney is expert at marketing to children in this demo and there is little parents can do to stop it. As much as we were into Blondie or KISS or the BeeGees in the 70s, they've got really particular ideas about what they like. And a great deal of what is served up in the past decade through TV is sugary, glossy pop. I mean, American Idol is really just another Disney-styled format at the end of the day.

Still, my wife and I continue to not-so-subliminally force-feed our kids our own music, which runs the gamut. Between the constant BBC in the car and NPR playing throughout the house and U2 or Misfits, then Billie Holiday and Cash to Femmes, Green Day and Clash, I'm hoping they'll take the bait and start to explore outside today's spoon-fed mainstream music nightmare.

They might have a bad case of whiplash when we're done with them, but they won't suffer from never hearing anything different.

Last night I was listening to Ten Years After, I'd Love to Change the World and found myself thinking that for a song so solidly rooted in late 1960s/early 1970s America, it could just as easily have been first written and performed yesterday.

I wonder how much of Beiber's stuff will play as well or feel as relevant, in 40 years.

I'm guessing: not much.

And, get offa my lawn.

*edit* my folks played NPR etc non-stop when I was a kid and about all I think it left me with was a life-long distaste for opera.

Not calling you a liar but if he was even touched by another kid it would be lawsuit city for starters. Not to mention, on YouTube.

You said 'it was seen first hand'. I'm guessing you didn't see it.

just start about 5 min in...

Bieber or Die! LOL
That was pretty funny.

One thing about the kid, at least he can play. He's a wicked drummer, plays piano and guitar as well. Saw him do an amazing drum solo at the end of one of his songs once.

There has always been a teen beat star in our midst while growing up in school. This is really nothing new.

At least there is something somewhat organic to how he came to be in the business. He wasn't cast into the role, but he is definitely managed in that pop-star style.
