Some workflow input.

I had my first experience with the workflow issue last week at a wedding. I was shooting in HD and, because I didn't know how long everything was going to take as far as shooting time was concerned, I spent what felt like every spare minute offloading to a hard drive attached to my laptop. HD with 4 32gb cards meant I had a total of 2 hours available to me with 4 clean cards.

The transferring was time-consuming but what was really worrying was the fact that I had to then format the card for re-use without always having the time to check what I had just transferred.

On my return home, I can tell you my heart was in my mouth as I plugged in that external hard drive to ingest the files into my edit machine! All worked out, though.

Not knowing if all the files were properly transferred or if some of them were corrupt or not was a major head0nick for me. But it worked out.

Some of you might say 2 hours is plenty to shoot a wedding without an offload, but when the speeches go for 50 minutes and the ceremony 45, it doesn't leave a lot of time for everything else. Especially when you overshoot like I do to make sure I have plenty.

Next time I will shoot in DVCPRO50 and know I have plenty of time.

Cheers

You could check out Shotput Pro from Imagine Products. It automates the process of offloading P2 cards with verification of transfer for each card.

David, and also see my last post on this thread regarding TEP bronze which includes Shot put pro.

With shotput pro, I can offload and do simultaneous back up, with verification on both.

Then at home you import those into TEP for your logging. Or you can log in the field with the Producer and send them on their merry way.

I am adding this logging as an additional paid process FWIW. SO they can have it on day at an additional xx per hour. Or I can do it in the following day/s as required, also for an additional xx per hour. Unless of course I am contracted to produce the piece through to edit, as doing the upfront log, means less $ I need to pay for editing / less time I need to spend in edit.

Everyone I show loves it.

The name for the Mac version of TEP is HD Log Pro. But any of the Imagine Products would be of service, some better than others, any better than none.

Best,

jan
