MAybe I'm just an awesome tripod operator, but I get good smooth pans with my Manfrotto 501 (not HDV). BUT I am like an abused child who has never known anything else. I like the looks of the Sachtler 0475 FSB-6 package, but I don't want those type of legs. I can't find any Sachtler legs that are just simple one pole, no spreader, and can go very low like the Miller 20. I am on the move a lot and constantly setting up a new shot (not to mention I have multiple protruded discs in my low/mid back), so I like that the Miller is 2 lbs lighter, and has the legs I like. But I have no idea how the Miller solo 20 head compares with the Sachtler FSB-6. Thoughts?
How about sticks from other companies with a Sachtler on top? Is that doable without expensive conversion pieces?
And another question(s): I don't see a lot of "flip" type or "speed lock" leg locks on carbon fiber legs similar to the Miller (they screw tight which I hate). Is that because carbon fiber is a bit slippery, and speed locks don't hold? I would live some nice lets like the miller only with speed locks. I have yet to find them. Could Mannfrotto carbon legs be fine for use with a Sachtler or miller head? Or is that just silly?
