Some shots from Waikiki, Honolulu Gh4 and AX100

Just got back from a stills shoot in HI and slapped together some shot taken with the Gh4 and the AX100. I'm really getting used to the Gh4 and I feel the camera is quite remarkable. So simple and fluid to use. Most shots are with the Gh4 but there is plenty of AX100 in this too. Sound recorded using the AX100's built in microphone (which is quite good considering). The Gh4 is really quite the kick ass little machine.

Quick edit and color in FCPX using my new Mac Pro which cuts 4K like butter.
Gh4 w/ 14-140 and 12-35mm cinelike D. Sharpness -3 and NR -5, all others zero and curve standard. A couple shots at 96Fps upscaled to 4k.
AX100 in standard profile
Mostly shot handheld with a few shots on a travel tripod.

Chris, I'm curious about your use of the 14-140 lens. When I used this with my GH4 with the OIS engaged, I got some really bad 'heat wave' effects. It looked exactly like the effect you'd expect with rapidly rising heat waves and it only occurred with the OIS on. It almost gave the appearance of shooting through water.

When I took the same shots with the AX100, there was no such artifacts. Did you have the OIS engaged on the 14-140 and did you notice anything like this?

Thanks Chris. I'm assuming this is with OIS engaged and yours is the 2nd gen 14-140?

Lovely imagery Chris! This is clearly the best I've seen from either of these cameras.

Thank you for taking the time to shoot interesting subjects, use a tripod, and not grade the video to death.

So have we finally seen the light? (Pun intended) :2vrolijk_08:

Nope! Though Chris has done a great job with the GH4, I am generally underwhelmed by its image and shortcomings. I've tried hard to find reason for a GH4 to replace my GH3 or Sony RX10, but currently see no compelling reason.

But, tomorrow is another day...

Here is my updated edit from the trip.

Dan, the compelling reason is the ability to shoot 4K even if you would down sample to 1080. Then you have to take into account of the image controls of the camera. To me, this is the first and really the only Dslr body with true video image controls and menus. Secondly, the ability to merge both motion and still photography. Pulling stills from the Gh4 motion is very very good. Now I'm just hoping Atomos picks up the pace and gets the 4K recorder out sooner than later. But the internal recording is really quite nice.
