some questions to CDProResTransfer

I am aware that I will need this program for merging files that were recored in parts of 4GB each.

CD says that this tool also optimizes Odyssey 7Q ProRes files for playback efficiency on a computer and in editors. I am curious what's the difference to recorded QT files and what is changed during copying? Do you see really a difference? I see one thing: creating date in the finder changed from recording date to the imported date what can be an issue.

Also what I don't found out: how to transfer only a part of the file in one go? It works with all files of }CLIPS{______________ODYSSEY or with one QT move of a subfolder but not with e.g 10 of 50?

thanks Mitch, I will ask them. Indeed there is an issue with change of creating date. I have a two camera shot with external audio and I want to synchronize several shots from these. But these shots are only 15% maximum of my footage. Picking the associated file is way easier if you can localize them by the date of creation.

+1
I just finished a 2 day shoot and tried to use the CDTransfer to copy the files over to my hard drive. While it appears all the files were transferred, I got a "failure to transfer" warning from the log file. If I do a straight copy/paste operation, everything works without a hitch. What's happening with the failure notice?

did you look at the log file? The warning happened to me twice and it was because of very very short files when I probably hit the camera trigger within a few tenth of a second.

ahhhh....yeah, I tried to decipher the warning messages, but, it made no sense. I bet you're right, because I had several very short bursts.

answer from Andy:

The utility simply optimizes the files for Quicktime player X, if you use Quicktime player Pro (7) then you will notice no difference.
You can run the utility on the entire directory or SSD, containing many to hundreds of clips, or on a single clip.
The utility does not have selectable functionality (At least at this time)

As for date created, it should not modify this, it is simply modifying the files audio and timecode for FCPX, so yes we would recommend using the utility when using FCPX or Adobe. In general, we recommend using the utility, especially if you do not know what edit system will be used.

As I wrote in my first posting: I have often multi clips files without time code.
It’s easy to pick them without TC if they are listed by creation date in the event library .
It’s a pain to pick matching clips if you have to find them by content viewing.

This would be my serious feature request:
keep this date when copying like other utilities as ForkLift do.
Also drag and drop for individual collections would be on my list.

Edit, new message from Andy:

They did not realize this was was being modified. Andy has forwarded this to their file engineers,
to see if they can have this corrected. They will look into my other suggestions as well.

Great!, thanks
