some questions (fps, artefacts, ...)

Hello

First, thanks for the community and all the information and feedbacks on experience that everyone gather here. It is very useful.

I am a motion designer and of course i'm more a postproduction guy. But it's been some time i wanted to buy a gh1 to shoot some sequence that i could 3d track to incorporate some vfx on. I am not a "photographer" but i know how to handle cameras and their settings.

I just have a few questions that remain in the dark after my researches in the forum. I have a pal GH1 by the way.

-I applied the lpowel blackout 24p patch. But the videos i get seem to be in 25fps while i want 24p... i also seem to dumb to find where i can change the framerate before recording.
-While previewing the videos on the gh1 everything seem fine but when i import the mts file in after effects i have lots of "artefacts" and ugly pixels appearing in some frames as i i did a bad timewarp.
-I shot the videos in FHD 1920x1080 but when i read the informations about patches it seems the resolution is in FHD only for anamorphic?? Is my problems coming from that? I should shoot in sh? So is there a 1080p 24p patch?
-when i change the firmware, all my camera settings come back to default which is rather annoying. Is it possible to save the settings from the menu somewhere?

I think that's it for now. In advance i thank you for your kind help. I hope you don't mind my bad english :)

Thanks again

Cheers

In the menu you can change the TV/Video output system PAL/NTSC. This should switch you over to from 25-24

How are you transcoding the files? This could have something to do with it? FHD is 1080. I believe there are hacks for anamorphic shooting. Are you setting up your project in AE as anamorphic? Maybe this could be your problem

Hi

Thank you for your reply.

So that means that in order to shoot in 24p i have to select NTSC? I am at work right now but i tried to put NTSC yesterday and it didnt allow me to record a movie with that settings... weird.

As a matter of fact i dont transcode the files, i put the mts files directly in After Effects. I don't want to shoot anamorphic as i dont have any anamorphic lenses to begin with. I was just mentioning that because for me it was not clear wether the firmwares allow to shoot in 1080p in "standard" mode (not anamorphic) and if it doesnt should i shoot in SH? and again if there are any 1080p 24p with high bitrate firmware?

I am a bit confused as most of the hacks explanation (extreme, blackout, etc) seem to say that 1920x1080 is only for anamorphic... is that correct? If so how are people shooting in 1920x1080 without anamorphic lenses?

Thanks again for your help

You should be shooting standard 1080p if you're in FHD, not anamorphic unless you chose that route. Just check the file info to make sure. If they aren't, then maybe someone else can chime in?
