Some questions for HVX200 owners.

If you want more info on an import model check out this thread:

I'd recommend you wait until you can afford a US model from an Authorized dealer.

Looks like he faired pretty well. I'm just gonna go with the import model. I'm not going to spend another $2000+ on a camera that has a USA badge on it. It makes no sense why the US model needs to be that much more expensive. Seems like people are fairly well satisfied with it and i'm pretty sure I will too. I'll update if I have anything else to add (good or bad).

Thanks for all the advice and help.

I did have another question while this thread is still up...

Can you attached any length audio cable to the camera attached to a boom mic and not lose any quality?

Yes the HVX200 absolutely shoots true 1080p in DVCPro HD. The HVX's color sampling is phenomenal but some people feel the sharpness and resolving power falls a little short of other camera's capabilities. While this is true, you should realize that many elements contribute to making a pleasing picture to the eye. Many people favor the look of the HVX200

If you are using a PC laptop, using Premiere Pro's OnLocation is a great way to capture from firewire straight to laptop/external hard drive. Check out Adobe Premiere Pro CS4.

No ... P2 card will fit into a PCMCIA slot on a computer or laptop but that's about as far as it goes. As far as using SD card arrays or anything like that, I think you're out of luck.
I am looking at the back of the HVX200 manual. The specifications show only 1080i formats available. I don't think 1080p is possible.

It is.

All the HVX does is wrap the progressive frames in a 1080i wrapper (much like the DVX does with it's 24p). It is returned to a true progressive stream in your editor. True, 100% 24p.
