And to those who suggested clear glass... I agree!! Looks too unreal with the tint. So I decided to do the cockpit and pilot. Probably won't be seen much by the camera, but I couldn't resist!! Have to take this one over the top and push my skills. Not sure just how detailed it'll be though.
Here's my start on it... C & C welcome as always!!
Did some work on the pilot. Spent very little time on the boots as they won't be seen in the final scenes. I did spend a lot of time on the helmet though. Not quite happy with the shape of the visor but it's what I ended up with. I think it'll work from a distance. The oxygen hose and com wire will be added once I fit him in the cockpit.
I based the pilot's design on the attached image of Major Nicole Malachowski. She was the first woman pilot to fly with the Thunderbirds in 2006. I saw her, and the second woman to the team, Major Samantha Weeks, perform at the 2007 Miramar Air Show. At the time of the image, Nicole was a Captain.
Nice work Tower. I can't really see any distortions in the stars but I doubt they'll be visible anyways once the pilot is in place.
Things look really clean but as you were saying that's the look you wanted.
Unrelated, I wanted to mention we have a new CGFest (in the dvxfests section) with more details to come.
Hope to see you there.
Thanks all for the comments! I "finished" the cockpit. Obviously not going for realism here. Looks OK from a distance which has been my goal. I need to learn how to age stuff though. Has that "New Star Trek Smell" about it.
Excellent. Can I take it for a spin? Any plans yet to animate it?
You could also offer that in some of the modeling sales sites like turbosquid and pick up some extra cash.
Kick ass Tower! As to age it, grunge maps, scratches & scuffs, break up the spec and reflection maps. That will get you close enough to look great, especially blowing past the camera at 800+.
So I started on an F-82B "Twin Mustang". Saw this plane in a slide show of little known and odd aircraft and got inspired to build one. Lots of P-51D's out there but I've never seen the F-82 modeled.
