Some of my C4D work...

Thanks a lot Gord. Quick turnaround for sure sometimes it forces you to learn faster. Yeah, I'm totaly digging modeling.

I'm attempting to model a dinasouar in my spare time and hopefully a cool spaceship after that. Like yours from O2 which was awesome!

Nice job, Josh! Cool little animation. Did they tell you what they wanted or did you just come up with an idea and go with it?

Thanks Tom. I just came up with the idea and went with it. Which was a bit risky since I had such a tight deadline but we got to take chances right :).

One thing I learned for this particular animation. I probably added a bit to much detail to the computer as the back of it wasn't even shown but oh well it was fun modeling.

Deinonychus (Raptor Family)

Well, I'm having a go at organic modeling. This will be my 2nd organic model ever. I've always had a passion for dinosaurs and Jurassic Park has a lot to do with what I'm doing now - career wise. Here is where I'm at so far.

3 Renders: My low poly 'box' model. Render with a level 1 hypernurbs. Subdivided Render out of Zbrush.

I just got ZBrush last week so this will be a great learning experience as I'm currently lost in Zbrush. I plan on texturing the raptor in Bodypaint (also a lot of learning to do there hehe) then rigging him and animating him. After all of that I will certainly be matchmoving him into some RED footage.

Getting there Josh.

I'm still saving up for a tablet myself. Zbrush, to me, looks pretty simple at the outset, but once you explore into more what it can do it keeps getting more amazing.
A bit like C4D that way.

Keep at it man. It's an amazing program.

Thanks Gord. Yeah I hear ya everything I see about zbrush just simply blows my mind. Amazing program indeed.

I'm trying to figure out a nice way to round my boxy wire image in C4D before I start sculpting in Zbrush.

I don't have a tablet either but I'm thinking I should probably invest in one.

Attempting to UV map my dino before I take him into Zbrush and texture later of course. Seems to be a long process to get it right.

Finished all my UVing in Bodypaint. Now I'm ready to go to Zbrush.

It should be a great one Josh after you've zbrushed it.

I found using layers while painting displacements very useful. And I like to use alpha stencils and sometimes the Z-project alpha method, although I'm still a noob at it compared to what the program can fully do.

The head I guess will be the hardest. I'd do that last. :)

Send me a PM or email. But in short, always export a tiff (never a bmp, it doesn't work for me) and invert the map vertically before export (depends on your setup though). 16 bit is always better than 8 but 8 bit (per channel, 24bit rgb) is fine for anything but very closeup shots, generally.

//Actually, I have a self-video-tutorial I made for myself so I don't forget all of the settings. I can shoot that to you shortly.

Update: Here is my latest sculpt in Zbrush. It's slow going as I'm really busy with work and learning Zbrush as I go.

Some MoDyn R&D

I have two Thinking particle emitters spitting out mograph objects via matrix object but the TP particles use the new modyn physics for collisions as oppose to the old TP collision node.

Then I have a cloth sim for a plane. I'm certainly excited about mixing Modyn with all of Cinema's modules.

Had a bit of free time last today so I'm planning to dig deeper into projection man and camera mapping. Taking a break from rigging and Zbrush .

Started with a photo I took in New York. I took out the sky in PS and did a bit more work there. Thus far I've got one building mapped but several more to go. I used SynthEyes to get my camera calibration.

I plan on adding some other cg elements when I have it all mapped and of course a camera move.

Hey Josh. Somehow I missed your modyn post.

Just for conversation, the modyn post reminds me of low res realflow. I mean in that the dynamics could be done with RF with a limited amount of drop. The RF engine seems to be optimized for that kind of behaviour, although it can be pig on rendering time and disk space. But I think with a few hundred balls (particles) it may be worth a look rather than using other dyanimcs engines. Just a thought. I'm not critisizing anything you did. It just crossed my mind while looking at it. Food for thought is all. :)

Your scrapers look great. How are you mapping the building?

//PM sent.

Hey Gord,

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I totally agree. That modyn sim does look a bit like low rez realfow. I mainly did the test just to see if I could use modyn physics for tinkling particles becasue TP collision node sux and was curious if I could interact with cloth at the same time. Oh and I only have Realflow SE which is limited to 50,000 particles and doesn't work on my upgraded 64 bit machine. Thanks again for insight as I totally agree. Realflow is fun :).

Thanks about the sky scrapers comment. Just basic camera projection inside of cinema but I am using the new projection man manager. Photo is decent rez I took it in New York with a 10mp dslr. Looking forward to mapping the rest of the scene and adding elements.

Speaking of mapping do you still have that one killer camera mapped video you did for a fest here?

-Josh
checking the pm.

I have a lot more I want to add like theirs more detail I need to map on the middle building and I'm going to create a new building. I plan on adding a landscape in the background and maybe a ocean.

Here is a quick test video. Click to watch in HD
