Some Non-Profit Thing I Did A While Ago. . .

Wow dude. That was sharp. Really professional looking; the interview footage especailly was first rate. I had problems with the compression on this but could see enough to see the quality. Good job.

Is it wrong that I thought the Kelle teacher was kind of cute in a book worm librarian kind of way? I mean, her being at a Christian School and all.

could you share with us the process of how you went about in making this video?

ex.. did they have lines to memorize- were you the one who organized this whole video- if you did, are you part of the Trinity School staff members?-

I just love how you set up the interviews. watching it just makes sense and it has alot of personality. I think it's great. nice job on it.

how long ago was this?

Basically, I was the staff videographer for a different part of the organisation and unaffilated
with the school. School contacted creative dept. and wanted to do a video and I happened to
be the guy they called on.

So far as pre production, I had a visit with the administrator (Nancy in the video) for about an
hour to discuss her ideas on what message they wanted to convey. They really weren't sure.
We discussed a couple of people who might make good interview candidates and after contacting
those folks, I setup interview times (having never met any of them or spoken to them) and each
interview took about an hour or so of shooting time. Basically the approach was to just get them
talking about something they were passionate about and explore that topic with more questions.

The story element of the piece was based entirely around the interviews and was somewhat
"scipted" from the beginning as to the order of things. But, no one memorised any lines. It
was all off-the-cuff so to speak, then I'd ask them to repeat their answers in a couple of different
ways, but none of it was pre-planned before the interview times.

The school basically gave it a stamp of approval after only one suggestion to put the website
overlay at the end of the video. Otherwise, they were pretty happy with it and had no relevant
concerns. No re-edits were made after showing them this first version.

Lighting the interviews took forever, but I'm pretty happy with the results.
If I were to do anything different now it would be better B-roll. The cutaways mostly stink.

Hindsight is 20/20. This was one year ago.

jpbankesmercer,

Thanks. The video was edited on a custom-built PC based on WindowsXP Professional and a
Matrox RTX100 with Premeire Pro 1.0 (remember, this was a year ago)

The sound for interviews was a pair of Countryman B6 lavs through Lectrosonics wireless.

The lower thirds were hand crafted using Premeire Pro's archaic built-in titler because I knew
it better than Motion at the time. Opening/Ending motion graphics made on a Mac in Motion.

Hope this helps.
