Some new info of HVX200

Hi all.
Here is excerpt from the article of November issue of Japanese magazine "Video Alpha".
It's written by Minoru Namikawa, a guy from Panasonic AVC Networks Company.

=================
*CCD*
We chose AHSP (Advanced High Sensitivity Progressive) technology, which is a combination of newly developed progressive CCD, pixel-shift technology and new DSP (code-name STING, 14 bit A/D [inner 19 bit] ). This allows us to drive CCD at 1080/60p, while retaining both high resolution and high sensitivity. Because the area of a pixel is larger than equivalent of "mega-pixel", we are able to get really clean picture.

Basically CCD is driven in 1080p @ from 12 to 60p, then newly developed DSP [STING] handles p-i conversion to 1080i, resizing to 720p, down-conversion to 480p/i.

*S-VFR (Selected Variable FrameRates)*
When in 720p, framerate can be selected from 12fps to 60fps in steps of 10.
There are two modes for S-VFR ; "Native" and "Over 60p".
In "Native" mode framerates can be recorded natively to P2 and can be played back at 24p/30p/60p.
In "Over 60p" mode framerates are converted to 60p as Varicam does, so that it can be streamed through Firewire for external tape drive or HDD recording.
Also S-VFR can be recoded to miniDV using "Native" mode, converting to 30p/24p/24pa.

*Other Info*
F1.6 / f = 4.2-55mm (35mm equivalent : 32.5-423mm when in 16:9, 40-520mm when in 4:3)
MOD(Minimum Object Distance) - 0.6m
Onscreen Zoom Position - Z00-99 or mm selectable
Onscreen Focus Position - AF(MF)00-99 or feet or meter selectable
Slow Shutter - 1/15, 1/30 (60i/p), 1/15 (30p), 1/12 (24p)

Thank you Saru-san.

Newly developed progressive scan CCD... hmmm. Sounds good to me!
No resolution particulars, but it sure sounds promising.

あなたに感謝しなさい

Jan what is your comment on this info?

Jan what is your comment on this info?

you really think it is already incorporated in the HVX200??
I thought 1080/60p was not possible with the HVX, only 1080/30p and 1080/60i or am I missing something? Jan C.-L. can you give some comments on this (at least for me) new info???

saru-san,

any word on the Japanese release date yet? I assume it's being manufactured in Japan, so another assumption would be that Japan will get the camera first?

Also, if any film/videomakers in Tokyo need assistance, please let me know.

so no 4fps? :(

That seems odd since the HVX200 brochure makes reference to 4fps:

"Lower-speed shooting at 4 to 23* fps lets you attain fast-motion effect. This technique can be combined with warp-speed effect, special emphasis to flowing water, fast-moving clouds."

Steve

See the thread title, it is indeed about HVX ;-)

OK, I also find it odd that he didn't mention 4fps.
But as Barry suggested on the other thread that zoom range has changed from 4.5-58.5mm to 4.2-55mm, the specs from the article might be slightly outdated, who knows.

The magazine went in stores just a few days ago, but the article itself might had been written well ahead in time, especially the HVX in the photo has no speaker grill on the side of the viewfinder.

For the release date, he just says "December".

For those who wondered if it loses a stop or two when fully zoomed in, this could answer that (sorry I forgot to include in the first post).

f=4.2-55mm, F1.6-2.8

PS: I can't type Japanese text as you guys did, it gets garbaged in the input field ???

Steve san

Cool! I got D70 and it is darn good camera.
So you copy and pasted japanese text, right?

When I trid to type direclty in the message field, it becomes "???".
well, I try anyway.

???????????
(Hello, world!)

D70 is a great camera!

I'm not sure why it won't display correctly? If it looks correct
on the google page, you should be able to copy.

Welcome guys in the D70 club!!

At least, for sure the D70 DOES 3 fps.... but that's max.... ;)

I've never heard of the native variable framerate playback feature, if it's really the case, then there won't be any more "I just shot the first day of my short film in 60i and the rest in 24p, what should I do" posts, which is good for all of us! :)

That's so sweet. Overlooked feature, maybe? I seriously haven't heard mention of this. I'm guessing that only works with p2 media, though.

Trust me we will not get rid of that question.

What are you planning to shot that you need 20X zoom for?

Ive have had more use wideangle than i have with zoom.

Beside buy a 1.5X adapter if you want more zoom.
