Some movies just don't hold up.

I just read on IMDB that the director and DP shot that shower scene slap-ass-naked on a dare from the producers. I don't know how I feel about that.

I remember when Starship Troopers finally came out and my step-dad took my sister and me to see it. I guess he didn't realize there were people being ripped apart by giant bugs, a shower scene and a sex scene (or two? it's been a while since I've seen it). I was about ten years old at the time. Haha. Of course, at that age, I thought it was the greatest movie I had ever seen, aside from Star Wars.

this was the first movie i made my (now) wife watch when we were dating. did it even hold up in 1982? doubt it, but i love it. my wife and I also love Mystery Science Theater, so i think that's why we love Megaforce. so i guess it holds up, but in a different way now. i mean, she didn't dump me after making her watch it...11 years married! haha

i'm pretty sure this isn't as cool as i thought it was when i was 5:

^^"Deeds not Words" as in we didn't exactly write a script and it's mixed so's you can't hear what anyone's saying, anyway.

i remember when i was a kid, this movie was so cool. it was like james bond, but with a kid. but i'm older, and it's not lol

All right. Stay here, I'll go inspect my cat. He's a male but I figure the spigots are there even if there's no pump attached...

The Monster Squad. Caught this thing on cable the other day and it is everything that was simultaneously great and terrible about 80's movie delivered in giant heaps of slobbering goo. To be honest, I don't remember liking it all that much when it came out and I was the dead center target audience, so the fact that I didn't think it held up isn't surprising. It inexplicably has a cult following, but it ain't no Goonies that's for sure.

Back to the Future II...Watched again on blu-ray. The first half of the movie is pretty damn terrible. There's a cartoonyness to all the characterizations, like Zemeckis forgot he wasn't still directing Roger Rabbit. All the performances are broad and garish. Even Michael J. Fox seems to be screaming half his dialogue. Once they go back to 1955 to fix things the movie gets better. The only thing that's interesting in the beginning is seeing some of the future predictions, as 2015 is only 5 years away. The biggest fail, besides flying cars, no hint of cell phones. Also, a newspaper mentions Queen Diana (oops). But wall sized TV's, teleconferencing, hundreds of channels, they got all that right. And the ubiquitous advertising...But I didn't enjoy watching this as much as I did at the time of its release.

The Last Starfighter. My wife picked it up off the shelf a few nights ago.

Even allowing for the '80s cheesiness, it's pretty bad, pretty '70s TV-bad, plodding, boring. And they make a huge deal in the featurette about how they pushed forward with the (near) all-CGI FX when others told them they should go with traditional model photography. And those others were right. CGI wasn't ready then. It would have been a better movie with traditional FX.

This, of course, is a timely post, because the "StarCar" from TLS was in BTTF II.
