Some effects grabs

Well, some of you are familiar with my experience of dropping the DVX down a mountain side (Cafe)...

Here are a few grabs that were shot for this very project. Most are greenscreen work and one is terrain enhancement. Any comments would be most appreciated. I still need to clean up the green spill (easy enough in AE) but haven't gotten around to it yet.

No comments eh? :D

One thing I'm curious about is whether people can tell what I did to the terrain enhanced image (top). See how well it worked.

Hi Shaw

I cannot tell at all what is up with the first grab. It looks like a location shot; care to share?

I love the shot of the talent facing camera. The lighting and background totally work; has a very modern vibe to it.

Hey John. Thanks for the post and comments!

The first isn't anything special really. The effect is rather simple but it's the first time I've integrated it so I was pleased with the outcome. It's a composite of live footage (no greenscreen) and an artificially added cave. We didn't have a cave and/or cave entrance so I figured I would do it digitally and track it in place for moving shots. Turned out rather well. It's composed of the following:

Simple but fun :).

Just for the sake of useless knowledge, the second and third are greenscreen. I went outside and shot the edge of a small rock in my backyard for the background image. Went in and did some somewhat poor photoshop editing to it before compositing (too out small twigs that somehow made it into the image etc).

Shaw, I would like to see the clip of that composite. Showing a still is one thing to see it in motion would be cool. Is that shot static?

Well, yes and no. This particular wide shot is static but then I cut in closer and those are moving shots that needed to have the cave tracked. I'm still playing around with the precise paths in After Effects but it's turning out ok. I'll get a clip up as soon as possible :).

for dv it looks like you are getting some good keys...especialy considering your greenscreen.

the cave composite is good...you have some black level matching issues with your plate but other than that its good.

good job man.

Thanks Rich. Yeah our greenscreen setup really sucked. I'm surprised it came out so well myself! Excellent point about the black levels, thanks! I just went in and tweaked the footage. Much better now!

Looks great, I noticed that your lighting on the green screen is off. Cave shot looks great, might want to lighten it up a bit though to make the cave entrance more noticeable.
