Damn firewire port died in the middle of a shoot. Thought it was the quick tream...went home to capture and nothing. First the vingetting now my firewire port after only thiry hours on the heads....piece of shizzle, XL2 here I come.

Re: Som of a Byotch

A friend of mine - his firewire port on his XL1s just went bad a few days ago. I sure hope the XL2 is a better camera. That XL1s has had a butt load of problems over the year.

I guess what I am trying to say is that it can happen to any camera, really. Don't blame the DVX for a problem that affects pretty much all cameras; from consumer DV cams like my old Sony D8 TRV320 - intermittent DV connection - to - the XL1s and your DVX.

Just playin devil's advocate, which I am sure you don't want to hear. Sorry dude.... :-/

Re: Som of a Byotch

this happend to me the 1st week i had my camera...i was pissed....something happend...fried my mobo, my ipod, my camera and the firewire on my audigy 2 zs.....got most of it fixed had to buy a new mobo...sound card...ipod got the replacement at best buy thank god for service plans...

THE WORST PART
it took a little over a month to get my DVX back...i was pissed B&H wouldnt take it back cause it had over 10 hours of use and it was the a day after their return policy...granted i dont know what part was at fault...the only thing i can think of is it was the camera cause it was the only thing to new to the mix...

its covered under panasonics warrenty but they dont readily stock the circuit board and firmware for it ....so your best bet is to jsut get a cheap dv cam to capture...unless you can afford to get it fixed....

good luck
and also make sure you use an approved fire wire card for what ever editing program you use...DO NOT USE ONBOARD....
