Solved ...
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears that
when Variable Frame Rate is turned on, (not necessarily in use, but just turned on in the menu) the camera is forced to manual focus only.
A long session of Poke and Hope brought me to the above conclusion.
I'm leaving the original question below in case anyone else runs into the same situation.

Hi there,
Half Push (shutter button) focus is working fine in Creative Movie Mode (camera M icon on dial)
BUT
I spent a lot of time setting up C1 C2 C3 with other settings and somehow in those Custom settings Half Push of the shutter button is now NOT grabbing focus.
I must have inadvertently set something in the C1, C2, C3 to disable it.
My question is what settings, other than the obvious are able to disable Half Push Shutter Focus?
The switch on the back is set to AFS/AFF
In the menu cWrench > Focus / Release Shutter Page 1 > Shutter AF is ON.
All comments and thought are very welcome.
Thanks!
Steve
