I shot the video with a Canon 5D Mark II, at 30 fps, and then slowed it down at 24 fps. While this is my 4th music video, it was my first major video with the 5D (used a Canon HV20 before the 5D). Overall shooting time was 3 hours.

On location tools: a tripod, and a shoulder rest. A single Canon 50mm f1.4 lens was used. Software tools used were Sony Vegas Pro, Cineform, Magic Bullet (tools that didn’t always want to co-operate very well, so editing took quite some time: crashing, and bugs).

nice indeed you've done a very good job and dynamic edit.
but as we already discussed it on your blog, the resulting skin tones illustrate exactly the terrible loss of depth and detail i was describing from over flattening and pushing the grade too much... unless it's your artistic intent of course.
anyways i see you're heading fullspeed to the next level with compositing and such so congrats for the achievement

Thanks guys. But regarding the "loss of depth from flattening the curve" is not actually true. Most of the video was shot in full standard color mode! NOT flattened. *Only* the drummer's dancing was shot with the flat look! Then, the whole thing was graded the way it is. So I think you're thinking a bit too much here. :D :D

haha alright then i was all wrong about your process ; anyways it's the greyish skin tones that i was just pointing out as wax looking unhealthy.
while i liked the overal mood and grade you achieved, the singer's orange shading of the cheeks and washed out forehead was a bit distracting on close ups.
unless going for effects (which i now understand you somewhat wanted) i find it quite challenging to massage the whole image without ruining the balance of skin shades and breaking the subtle sense of depth.
i now stand corrected about your workflow on this video and applaud the results nonetheless as for a 3 hours shoot it came out great.

Here's one more, this one was INDEED shot with the flat look: official music video for Midnight Strangers‘ “Future of Humanity” single. This is my first foray into narrative story telling (even if within the form of a music video).

Shot with a Canon 5D Mark II at 30 fps, and then it was slowed-down to 24p. Majority of footage was shot with the Canon f1.4 50mm lens. My own “ExtraFlat” Picture Style was used (minimum color grading was done in post, it just came out exactly as I wanted it to).
