sold my GH1 should I buy another?

I was using my GH1 as a backup to my 5D mkii and 7D. I was happy with my color matching, but not the overall quality.

Been having buyers remorse since following the testing on the hack.

Considering purchasing another GH1, but it's not on the top of my budget list so will be painful.

That being said, I"m seeing some good looking stuff based on the C settings and class 10 cards.

If I re-buy the camera, it will be to use, not just to test, so I'm looking for advice on the reliability and usability of the camera with the hack.

I'm an experience user (I was an original tester on the the 5D hack).

Is it reliable enough for mid to heavy use? (it's not my primary camera so an occasional hiccup, may or may not be trouble).

Thanks in advance for advice..........

I have the exact same tale. Had a GH1, sold it due to the weak codec, bought a 7D and have access to another and a 5DMk2 in my office. Have never gotten used to the need for all the hardware to make the Canons work below or above eye-level--so annoying--missed the articulating LCD of the Panny and other attributes I took for granted, including the very small footprint and weight, live viewfinder, quiet AFC, etc. Saw the hack praise and bought one very slightly used on eBay. Have been having fun for a few days now. Shot at old codec and then did the hack. Dramatic differences even at the safer B settings, 24-40Mbs, rock solid after sending into Final Cut and spitting out in a QT file. I had lots of mush and noise and pixels Before the hack. Playing with C settings this week. No issues so far. 20mm 1.7 a must have, I just love that lens. Also got the Hot Rod PL mount on eBay for stable hand held stuff, and now shopping for lenses. Gotta have at Least 2.8 at the low end to make this camera see---like ANY camera, it's all about fast glass. The 4/3 sensor can hold it's own. Plus, this camera doesn't overheat--and I'm tired of those embarrassing moments with the Canons on shoots. That will not do. This is a great camera now--and it's actually fun to test the settings. Would I use it for a long format presentation? No. I have Sony EX's for that. These cameras are for art, short interviews or scenes, commercials, and such. I suspect we'll be seeing more of all of those from the GH13 in the months ahead.

Bought my GH-1 a few weeks ago after giving up my 7D. No regrets here at all. The 7D was great but this feels better especially with the articulating LCD. I stopped using the custom presets on the 7D a while ago so if anything... that would have been the only feature I would have missed. I have a feeling Vitally and company will be cracking that HDMI out any day now. Once that happens then I can't see any other camera touching this thing. I am able to get the same exact look I got from the 7D except much sharper and more detailed. I used to think the GH-1 had way too artificially sharp and image. But I found that in certain settings it can look just as smooth. I guess you never know until you try....and I'm glad I did.

Definitely haven't ever been a fan of over-sharpened. It's just an operator thing, though. I knew I wasn't getting that in my footage!

GH1's a killer, man. Definitely want me some HDMI out goodness, soon.

Well....it was definitely the images you were getting that made me pause and rethink what I was concluding earlier. Thanks for that.

Pardon me while I scoop my jaw up from off the floor...
Glad you're enjoying your new cam, even if it surprises me that you took the leap! :)

I would say go for it... I Sold my tokina 11-16mm (which still hurts) to get the GH1 but man oh man I love this baby! The hack has brought the GH1 back!

am selling my 7D to buy another GH1.... have been very happy with the hack.Dont need these canons any longer....

Looks like I'll be buy another camera. I'd like to sell the 7D but I'm diggin the 8 fps shots for action photos. Beside video, I'm shooting lots more stills on the 5D because of the quality and low light.
Guess I'll have to be a 3 camera guy.
At least I kept my Nikon adapter for the GH1.

Thanks for the comments. It sounds like the C settings done properly are stable.

Wow... I know you had a lot of love for that 7D lol.

Im with you jfro, I need a picture camera too... If I can keep up the gigs in photog I should be able to justify 7D and use it mostly for pictures.

As for video, GH1 comes out of the bag 1st :)
