sold my EX1 for an HVX.

Barry,
Is there no shutter angle that'll lose the TV artifacting (ie. shooting an NTSC screen at 24 FPS on the camera). Also, sodium vapor street lights, can that be solved with shutter angle or are they a problem at all? If sodium vapor is an unsolvable issue, there goes most urban night exteriors.
It's a rolling shutter. That means problems. You have to synchronize the shutter speed with the lights (or TV screen). You may or may not be able to do it, depending on your frame rate. There is no such thing as a blanket "HMI Safe" frame rate regardless of shutter speed; the shutter speed and frame rate have to be chosen together to overcome this.

And sodium vapors are a problem as they can yield double and triple exposures.

I played with the EX1 at Tamberelli and was quite blown away by the picture quality. Definitely achieved a quality I can't with the HVX.
It is definitely significantly sharper and with less noise, no argument there. But there's no free lunch, and you really have to learn about this darned rolling shutter to see whether it'll work in your circumstances or not.
