Quick question:
I have 2 fully authorized PC Media Composer systems.

I have a camera guy who wants to log the footage of a project we're collaborating on. What if I gave the software to him (mac version) to throw things on a timeline? Would this software "work"?

We're not looking to export or get output, we'd do that on my systems. But if I gave him a drive with P2 clips shouldnt he be able to 'rough cut' it? Anyone every try using the software without a dongle attached?

If you're running Media Composer 4.0 or higher, you can choose to do Software Activation, which disables your dongle. You'd just need to deauthorize your copy of Media Composer, then he can open it on his system and authorize it. When he's done, he deauthorizes/deactivates it on his system, you reactivate it on yours.

Kind of a pain in the butt, but better than losing a dongle. Otherwise, give him one of your dongles.

Any discussion as to how to get around a dongle or other copy protection is in the verge of violating the 8 Ps, specically, Piracy, so this thread should end here, with about the only two legal options available. . . .

It is for sure annoying to have to use the dongle from machine to machine. The software activation thing sounds great though. Another reason to upgrade my old Avid :D
