Some help here, reading thru several posts it seems that Barry Green, (the HVX book its great!!) suggests that Canopus’s Edius Broadcast 4 is the way to go. I really don’t want to wait for Adobe to get their act together with regard to the P2 MXF format so I am hunting for a PC NLE software that will handle DVCPRO HD and all other formats available on my HVX.
So the question is: what is the better software solution? Edius BC 4 or Avid Liquid Pro 7 – B&H is offering a $200.00 rebate on Avid.
Which is the better solution?

Consider that Avid Liquid doesn't currently support DVCPRO-HD.

Barry,

My mistake, I reviewed the specs (B&H link below) is DVCPRO-HD the only format not handled by Avid Liquid? - from what I read, it understands the P2/mxf files for all other HVX formats.
If I combinded this with Aspect HD would this be the smart thing to do?
Or just spend the extra money and get Edius 4?
BTW - your HVX book rocks, thanks to Panasonic and my dealer for giving me one with the purchase of my camera.

CineForm Aspect HD is only for Premiere, and it's really nice. Do a seach, there's a few great threads about it.
CineForm also has Connect HD which will convert the MXF files into AVIs for any NLE.
If you already have Premiere Pro 1.5 or 2.0, I really recommend Aspect HD. There's a free trial on their site... www.cineform.com

Hey Scanner,

Here's the sit - I have Premiere 6 - I am willing to upgrade to Adobe's Video Suite for about maybe $699.00 -this will give me Premiere Pro, AE, Encore DVD etc.
I just can't jusify spending the money on something that will not handle DVCPRO-HD or the P2 workflo in general. NOt sure how much Aspect HD costs
but it seems like I'm just using add-ons to deal with this format, I would much rather have one solution - a solution that will give me access to the meta-data attached to the MXF files. FCP nor Premiere nor anything else that give the MXF files a "wrapper" seems to do this.
If I sound like I know what I'm talking about I'm probably wrong.
Enlighten me!

Tazza, the only NLE that has full integrated MXF/P2/Metadata support is EDIUS Broadcast. Not even Avid supports all the features the way EDIUS does.

Thanks Barry, Edius seems to be the way to go.
What DVD Authoring program would work well with Edius? I understand that you can burn a DVD from the time via Procoder but there is little if any Authoring capability.

Both Procoder and Procoder Express (the latter is supplied with Edius) lack AC3 audio support and any real authoring capabilities -- they also default to MPEG2 audio for NTSC video, which is not part of the spec and essentially produces invalid DVDs.

My recommendation is to output an MPEG2 Program Stream with LPCM audio and leave it as is (for short videos where space is not an issue), or to transcode the file to AC3 audio using a separate DVD authoring program of your choice.
