F5: Software For NewF Now Posted

There is no Apple editing workflow available at this time. The community page points to the latest workflow diagram, but the only Apple option is SR which will not be out for some time. Hopefully Apple will produce something to read the new XAVC codec.

Anyone know of the best/easiest way (as of now) to batch transcode XAVC files to ProRes to cut in FCP7 or X?

I only know of one. Latest version of Resolve Lite. You'll have to read up, but it can do thing dailies style where it just outputs every input file that's loaded, and keep filenames.

If so inclined, you could also apply the S-Log 2 LUT and do one-light corrections before output.

There will be FCP X support but when and it what form I don't know. There will not be direct FCP 7 support for XAVC.

Resolve Lite, as Nate points out, is the best ProRes transcoding option at the moment. Smoke 2013 will also work with XAVC HD files but not 4K XAVC.

But I suspect that will change soon when there is direct FCP X support.

FCP 7 support can simply be via X-- use Philip Hodgett's Xto7 utility. Or you could import the ProRes files generated by Resolve directly into 7.

Note that with Content Browser 2.0, you need a serial number from the camera packaging or you need to purchase unlock from Sony. I am not clear whether it will unlock with just the $19.95 NXCAM decoder or whether it requires one of the $199 codec packs.

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah Im sure there will be no direct support for FCP7, was just looking how to best serve clients who are still using it.

Who's still editing higher end work on Apple after FCP-X?

FCP X does have a broad user base. I doubt that anyone is cutting feature films in X, but I do know those involved in spot and documentary work who use X. Removing the "fan boy" factor, I think there are a number of us who see it as yet another tool-- suitable for some jobs but not for others.

CS6 opens 4k RAW from F5/F55? sweet :love4:

How bout playing it... wonder how you'd do real time 4k cutting... in other words what would you use in place of the red rocket...

I did find out premiere is best for Red 4k to readjust framing if you're going for a 2k output...

I will be able to post a video of ingesting F55 4K raw into PPro CS6. I am just awaiting resolving a serial number issue with ScreenFlo.

I was honestly asking, as I moved away from FCP when Apple brought out FCP-X fiasco and never looked back. My impression was that most people doing serious work moved away. I haven't looked at FCP ever since so maybe the initial disappointment eventually died out.

About cutting features, well, nobody is really cutting features on anything that is not an Avid or a Lightworks theses days, or maybe a Smoke. But I wouldn't hold that as the benchmark.

I think that some moved away while others are getting every last ounce out of FCP 7. The reaction is definitely more muted than at intro when many (me included) went bonkers.
