Softbox lighting...subtle aperture changes (I think)

I am a new user...and have been doing some interviews using some softbox lighting in front of the subject. They are evenly lit, and I have been shooting in automatic mode. Is there a way to keep the exposure from changing but still have the focus be automatic as I zoom in? As the subject becomes animated and moves her head, I notice very subtle changes as the picture gets lighter, darker then lighter again.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I had the same issue and I was running in Manual mode. I strongly suggest to run in manual mode and set your shutter speed so you are not running the iris into the gain if possible. I still run into gain in some issues where I have no control of lighting but at least it ends up on the lower side with little to no noise in image. You also want to get your white balance locked once it is set. If you are zooming and distance or your subject is moving the Auto WB will change how the image looks, its annoying but it happens. Then you do like hendosan said and click from auto to manual with the iris wheel and it will work out fine. When I zoom any distance I click to auto while zooming and a little before getting to my subject I click it to Manual. Using the zebra stripes will helps in attaining the exposure I desire. Hope this helps.

Put the auto/manual switch in manual. Then you can set the iris to manual exposure by pressing the iris wheel in to toggle between auto and manual. Focus can be set to automatic by pressing the focus button.

If you have the auto/manual switch in auto, then everything is auto all the time.
