Sociopathica - Nearly Complete

Greetings,

Well my first feature film is one shooting day away from being done with production. It has been an interesting ride. We shot it in just 7 days. I agree my standards aren't nearly as high as some folks but I think its pretty decent.

After three re-writes and nearly all the shooting done, I finally came up with a name: Sociopathica.

I think the thing that stands out the most for me about making this movie was that I didn't use much of the expensive equipment I bought or any of the rigs I made. I do feel this may not be the case on future films. This movie took place in one location (a three bedroom apartment) and using a crane or dolly, etc. really wasn't as important.

I also learned to trust my handheld abilities. I think for most of the shooting, I just didn't feel comfortable trusting good shots to handheld. I think this was a little overspill from the low-end camcorder days when handheld was like the worst thing ever. But the DVX100B is supper smooth when handheld (especially when you still have "roll your toes" skills from your high school band days). So one day I tried it because I had no other choice for the shot I was trying to get and was kicking myself for not trying it before. This was a great thing to discover right before needing to shoot the most action packed scene of the movie that just isn't as effect unless being shot handheld.

The last shooting day will be the most interesting. Although this movie was geared to have tons of blood, so far we've hardly used any. But the last scene of the film involves our wonderful female lead in a tub full of bloody intestines, so our challenge of course will be how to keep her from coming out of the tub looking like a red crayola. Our plan is to cover her in vasaline and saran wrap (of course it's for professional purposes!) hahahahaha We will see how that works. The other challange is making the intestines. We ordered two buckets of empty sausage casings which we hope to fill with fake blood and cooked spaghetti. We shall let you know how that works out. hahahahaha

The most stressful part of this was having to do re-writes from loosing cast and all the scheduling problems but it really was overall, not too bad of an experience. In the end, we ended up with a very unique cast.

We have outtakes/etc. on the new website I'm still working on:

The gallery has tons of photos from each day of shooting.

I'm looking forward to post production. It will be interesting to see what I'm able to do with the footage I shot.

Cheers!
