So you wanted those 4 HPX music vids in HD?

beautiful stuff there, but I gotta agree that first video with all the "cracker" and "nigger" stuff was pretty bad. Honest question, would you work for some White Nazi punk band too?

It's very hard to make stand out hip hop tracks and vids these days beyond the paint by numbers stuff you usually see and hear....I'd say you and the artists managed to give it a fresh feel. Obviously you're not re-inventing the wheel, you do have to work within the genre to appeal to the core audience, but you managed to capture the immediacy and the grit. You feel like these guys are livin' the stuff. Ironically the only cut that feels a little tired was the Coolio vid (the guy with the biggest name). But it is forgivable due to the amazing eye-popping colors, and oh yeah, how can you go wrong with top notch hotties?!!!! All kidding aside, this is major league pro stuff!!!! Way to go!!!!

Sadly.. no one wants originality anymore. We have written tremendous treatments before (the one that springs to mind is of the artist as a detective character.. he stops a bank robbery in progress to see one of the robbers is his ex.. the video plays out with her on the run and him torn between his former love and doing the write thing and ending with the police taking her down in a hail of gun fire as he tries to intervene) all based on the budget they already proposed and had them respond, "Yeah that is good but.. can't we just have him perform and have some sexy girls dancing around?" The Coolio video is the least original, mainly due to the fact that rain made us loose more then half a shoot day so a ton of shots got scrapped. We make do with what we have, and it is what I love about young rock bands.. they are down for whatever is cool usually.

I see what Andrew was stating. Shots of the judge and the witness have very visable color fringing (CA) around the left side of their bodies. This is a funtion of the camera and lens and not any kind of user error.

Gotcha.. sorry for some reason I assumed he was speaking of a post issue and totally spaced on the lingo. Yeah there is some and that video was the first we shot with the camera and the new lens, and it was less then ideal with a rushed schedule so there was some learning the hardway there.

Interesting that you got rid of 35mm adapters. In fact I liked the DOF the DP achieved with the 2/3" sensor, especially in very controlled situations where he accentuated it very efficiently with lightning. Respect

You know.. The cam and the lens has pros and cons.. I deff want to see some high end primes on this thing, we just have not gotten to that point yet. In a lot of ways though i miss the adapter and the Zeis

You know that is a very very good question. I am not sure what my answer would be upon reflection. Sadly the issue comes down to social acceptability. What Plies says is accepted, if nothing else because many are afraid to "upset" anyone, where Nazis punks are not. I will say this video was not for mainstream and Plies new that as well as anyone. All during the shoot we would say something like, "That may not work" or "BET won't allow that." to which he would reply, "F*** BET.. this aint for them.. this is for myspace, youtube.. thats it."

A lot of bigger urban artists started with such opinions.. and as they grew they let them go. Some might call it "selling out" but as you have different life experiences your perspective changes. If you grow up around hate of any kind.. you learn it, of course money and fame puts you in close proximity with people you otherwise may have never met and you find yourself thinking, "Maybe they aren't quite what i thought they were" "American History X" did a good job of showing that opposing scenario. A man, filled with hate.. forced into a situation close to someone of another race that he hated simply because.. and finding him to be his only friend. With enough time and the right stress-ors we can learn, or un learn anything.

Tizzy, sad that you guys obviously do good work and get shot down on originality - I understand the need to commercialize the artist though.

On the first clip at 44 and 46 clear chromatic aberration. What lens was this shot on? Ive never seen this on my CAC lens or higher end glass.
