So wrong

who cares if its fake. Its funny as hell.

Not just that, but if the firecracker/reaction part is not faked, then that's what's important. The point of the video is not that if he told the truth about telling her not to play with the gun, it's the prank played on her. I guess if the guy lies (IF he did) then it's not funny. ??

I have a different understanding of the video. The idea is not just "hey, how about a sudden noise would freak someone out". The idea rather is that he TOLD her not to fool around with the gun. Now, when she defies him and goes against common sense in persisting to play with the gun - when the "shots" sound out, she freaks out it's a case where she has a guilty conscience and so her reaction would be magnified by that. Without that element, this is as stupid as someone walking behind you and suddenly going "boo!"... lame. We all have memories as kids where we were told "don't touch/play with x, y, z" and when something sudden happens we FREAK exactly because that warning was in the back of our minds. THAT's the point. And by the way, this is how the guy, narrator of this video set it up - he understood that this is the operating principle... this is no accident - he scripted this for you in that narrative mode "I told her not to play with the gun, now she's gonna get it, he he".

Now, when she is in on it as far as HE TOLD HER to go ahead and play, the guilty conscience part is not there. Now it's just something going suddenly "boom" - like any other lame stuff. And THAT's the lie that disqualifies this video. The point is NOT just the firecracker "startled" reaction - it is firecracker reaction primed by the guilty conscience and "just deserts".

Actually this is thread is interesting from a different point of view. Not just how some folks can't spot a fake. It's how some folks are weak when it comes to analysis of why something works or not - an essential skill if you are telling a story - you must understand where your effects are coming from. Kinda key for people aspiring to work in this medium. So for that reason alone this was worth it, apart from the laughably eye-rolling fake video.

Anyhow, I still say this is fake through and through, beginning to end, but YMMV.

For me it's about something beyond even that... I am often torn on whether or not to comment against the grain. Obviously we all want to be popular around here, so there will be times when I totally disagree with the popular flow of a thread, but after reading it feel compelled to comment... because I am surprised that video people don't see through this stuff.

I could have laughed at that if it WASN'T for the setup... if the video started just on the girl playing with the gun and then the firecrackers go off instantly. I can't laugh at it because in my mind the guy must be thinking I'm stupid by the time he does his thing, with all the phony setup.
