So Why

So Why deos it seem to be so hard to focus any 35mm adapter. Iv'e been reading some of the posts and can't seem to figure it out. sorry if this is one of those duh questions... is it cause your focusing with 2 lenses? I'm looking to do a chase scene and have a couple of shots that would look awesome with that SDOF. I am deffinatly new to this.

Also if I do my shots zoomed in and have an open iris for the short dof and its too hot will I loose anything by dropping my nd filter in? Don't think so but I have been wrong many times.
thanks

It is harder to focus with a 35mm adapter due to their purpose! The shallow depth of field they create requires more precision & acuracy to place the intended subject in focus.

With the camera you have to center the 35mm adapter GG and focus to it. Then leave the camera focus and zoom untouched and while shooting you will only focus using the 35mm lens. Anyway check the camera focus and zoom before every take.

Focusing with 35mm lenses is more difficult because you have a very shallow d.o.f.
Unless you shoot to fixed subjects and camera you will have to use a follow focus and a person whose only job is pulling the focus for you while you shoot.

It's exactly like working with Panavision or Arri 35mm film cameras.

Yeah trying to do run and gun shooting with a steadicam and a focus puller can be a pain using a adaptor. If your a one man band type...I would just shoot with the stock lens with auto focus and use the adapter when shooting regular shots.

Thanks..Got it, For some reason I thought it was a task setting the cameras lens (zoom and focus) to mesh with the 35 mm lens on the end of the unit. so that being said. I realize now that I only focus with the 35mm lens. is there a preset on the camera lens?

There is a sticky on top of this forum that you should read so that it answers most of your questions.
