So when I get this camera...

...And I shoot HD. What is the quickest way to get it to be viewable to others?
I mean I have to put it on some sort of DVD.
Will I lose everything I am supose to gain?

And once again, It would be good to know if Rush still has me near the top of his "pre-order" list. I can not seem to get a straight answer from him.

Right now, the only display method for consumer-shot HD is on a computer screen or on an HDTV by means of being plugged directly into an HD camera or deck itself. This actually is a big issue with the format, and companies are really going to have to start giving us answers soon. The advent of Blu-Ray looks like the most promising way to free us from these shackles, though it will unquestionably be pricey and is still a few months away.

Right now you can encode to WMV - HD and playback with either a computer or a player capable of playing WMV - HD. Here is a link to one:

I have successful played the HVX-200 demo WMV-HD clip from my computer to my 52" DLP HDTV and it looked quite stunning.
Go here to download more sample WMV-HD clips:

And no, I do not work for $MS

The reality is there is no clear winner in the HD battle as yet... and there wont be until people are out there buying the stuff in large numbers. I can buy Blue Ray disks anywhere right now... assume its the same in the US and elsewhere? Havent seen the other on the shelves at all.

You cannot get Blu-Ray of HD-DVD right now in the US.
The only solution for us right now is to use
WMV-HD. It works for clients that want HD
playback for trade shows or events. Easier on the budget
than renting HD decks.

Even if can't get HD out yet, I still get native 16x9 and the Varicam codec and a larger lens, which I feel will make a much better product than the DVX.

Question, is everyone using Windows Media Player 10 to play back the HVX wmv files?

Hi Steve... just for you I upgraded my WMP 9 to WMP 10 on one of my PentiumD 3.0's... the conclusion is... well, I don't have a conclusion. The desert/newspaper/guitar clip plays about the same as it did under WMP 9. Maybe it is more of a resource hog on lesser systems? I don't know.

However, try VLC from

www.videolan.org

This player should do a pretty good job of everything from WM to .m2t's...

I'll give it a try. thanks.

By the way, Windows Media Player 10 works fine on my video editing computer.
Intel P3.4GHZ /2GB mem/ SATA drives / Quadro FX1300 video.
