Okay, so what filter should i get for an EX3 to avoid the IR problem? I was told the 486 is the best one but has some slight green vignetting. Is there a solution or do I go rent an HPX3000
If it were me, and this is just me, I wouldn't bother with an EX1/EX3 if my sole purpose was an indoor shoot under tungsten lighting with primarily people in black tuxes. Especially if I were being paid for the gig. If you can afford an HPX3000 rental, I'd be all over that one for this kind of shoot.
Do you think Sony could (not would) make an effective fix by replacing the ND filters with ND+IR filters (and the no ND becomes a clear IR filter?
Surely replacing the cost of the filter would be mostely labour, they could charge US$150 to take the sting out of it for them but still be cheaper than buying a filter. Just as long as it actually worked without creating any other problems.
