ha ha! Yes, but we would've had to make an over-sized gun to match the scale. hmm... actually, that sounds kinda cool, and I'm not a fan of guns. You'll never see a movie of mine with a gun... unless it's ridiculously over-sized.

Here's the typewriter I have in mind... disregard the old guy typing...

 
Any character fighting for their life can be compelling to watch. A gun is a very simple (and most realistic) form of this that can be established in 6 minutes.

i.e. 2 guys running, the chaser has a gun. Audience already knows the unarmed guy is the good guy and the chaser is the bad guy (obviously this can be flipped through the movie, but it's building off audiences prior knowledge of what that scenario usually means).

Setting up complex motivation can work in short films, but many times you simply need to setup the story as quickly and economically as possible then let it play out.

There's a reason most popular shows on TV have a lot of guns in them.

According to Nielsen's, 8 of the top 10 regularly watched shows of 2009 were either reality shows or Sunday Night football.

Maybe the betrayal would have been better represented by having someone voted off a show? :)

PS - Dexter is one of the best shows on TV and he works for homicide. Yet in 4 seasons a gun is rarely every pointed at someone.

For some reason that reminds me of my favorite example of random guns in a show. Lost. A bunch of people crash landed on an island. What did someone happen to have? Not just one or two guns. A BRIEFCASE full of guns.

And somehow the characters stumble onto a new stockpile of guns every season.

Um...no.

The US Marshall had one gun. One. Then, when they found HIS locked briefcase, there was another. The briefcase FULL of something, was knives that belonged to Locke, and they were stowed below during flight.

The group didn't come by the entire plethora of guns until Season 2 when they opened the hatch and found the small arsenal that DHARMA had.
