So the FS700 will be what the Scarlet should have been?

I was just browsing the new Sony announcements for NAB.

Seems their two really new products are the FS700 (similar to the FS100 but upgradable to 4k and up to 240fps in burst mode to go along with the 35mm sensor with SDI as well as HDMI out put and now with ND filters) and the PMW-100 which seems like an EX1 with a smaller sensor that does 422.

The FS700 has a MSRP of $8000. Seems like a direct competitor for the Scarlet, and the PMW-100 is a competitor for Canon's offering.

We always knew the SxS card was easily capable of recording 422. If they can do that for for an EX1 (PMW-100) they can do it for the F3 (F5).

Scarlet will get you 4k Raw today at a quantifiable cost.

No saying when the FS700 will do 4K, and no saying how much extra it will cost (firmware/hardware).

I don't see the FS700 as a direct competitor to the Scarlet, not yet. But its a sign of things to come.

For me sensitivity and dynamic range are always going to win out. I don't feel I need 4k and I can't think of too many instances where I'd ever need more than 60fps.

The camera looks cool but features don't really sway me the way the used to. I'd rather see how it handles the highlights and what it's rated at.
