So i'm stuck... DVCPROHD issue

Okay, so I picked up an HVX200 and have been messing around with it and thought I had it all figured out. A client came to me and needed some video shot (nothing hard) so I told them I'd take care of it for cheap because it was the first time I would be using the HVX200. I picked up an FS-100 and set up everything to record. It seemed to be recording fine! Great!

Now.. the issue... I went to pull off the MXF files and boy has it been fun. First I find that Premier 2.0 nor After Effects support DVCPROHD native, which I could of sworn I had seen on Adobes site that they did. Then I find raylight and AspectHD as well as the P2Viewer from Panasonic.

* The p2viewer doesn't work on Vista (especially x64 like I have) so that is out
* Raylight, while not the best looking program... seemed to work if I kept it outside of premier. I couldn't find a way to import .MXF within premier, it kept not showing the .MXF files. The files it did convert outside of premier, (although I only tried the demo P2 files they have for download) seemed to be really slow and not converted right.
* AspectHD needs p2viewer installed!

I also picked up a MacBook PRO 17" about a week ago for other reasons, so I figured I'd go download a trial of FCP only to find that they don't have a trial.

All in all, i'm stuck. Any suggestions. I'm okay with spending $500 or so on a good solution to this but I really don't want to have to buy final cut for $1,500 or Edius for $4,000 (I think that was the cost).

Thanks for help in advance!

Raylight 2.02 will let you drag your mxf files directly to the timeline without converting them. It will work with premiere and vegas. Check it out.

That's your only option. That or a different nle.

Give a Try to Cineform's Aspect HD... ¡¡¡wow!!! men it really works, and makes premiere 2.0 a rocket!!!!

try QuickTime files?

try QuickTime files?

The FS100 will capture the HD files as QuickTime files (version 3 only) instead of P2 files. If you have a NLE that supports QT files, you dont need to import P2 or MXF. just drag 'em in there.

You can drag Firestore MXF files directly into Vegas or Premiere with Raylight.

Also not every windows app can read DVCPROHD quicktimes without a plugin for quicktime. The raylight plugin for quicktime is one:

but it's not fast enough for editing, it's mainly for post work on HVX200 projects that were originally edited on the Mac

getting native MXF into after effects

getting native MXF into after effects

on a side note I have been able to get P2 MXF files into after effects after installing the EDIUS demo, just remember in the import dialogue box to set the 'Files of type' option to all files and set the 'format' dropdown to 'video for windows' and of course import as footage.I've tried this on two different computers and it does seem tied in with the edius demo, correct me if I'm wrong!

You do know that you wont be able to ever play the uncompressed HD files unless you have a RAID and an incredibly fast pc.

Just use Raylight to convert them to AVI then bring the resulting uncompressed AVI (not the mxf like its seems like you tried to do) into premiere or After effects, and then render out a playable compressed file. I use Xvid or DivX. If you have a slower machine you can also use raylight's proxy system to keep your NLE running smoothly until final render out.
